I must admit I find the patriotism nauseating, especially the lack of irony in singing "the bombs bursting in air". And the cops aren't exactly slow to take the plaudits.
That said, it's an effective way of reminding the rest of the world why the US is top dog. An unbreakable spirit, even if it looks like sugar-coated chest-thumping. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the media tried to demonize American patriotism, in the same way that they have done in Europe. But they won't do it, because American soldiers will always be needed to fight other people's wars. |
