Anyone ever sold a full or partial member's area download?

True. you could even offer to mail it on DVD to those that would rather do that than download.

Caged trials are something we are testing but selling the whole site as a download would just not be practical for us but it is an interesting idea.

I would imagine that you guys have a truckload of content in your site(s) after all these years.

A better alternative to ZIPs might be Blu-ray ISOs

we live in an Era of skydrives, people is becoming more and more independent on sites that do everything for you, for example if you want to listen to music no need to download everything is streamed.. videos.. everything is streamed.. even videogames you can stream them without downloading them, so instead of that giving them access to a private skydrive of their own, where you will update every week more n more material for a month will be a great deal

That's a cool idea as well.

A lot of pay site owners have their servers or site security scripts setup to only allow a certain number of downloads at a time so a member can only download 2-3 videos at once and not the whole site and is forced to stick around as a member if he wants to download the whole site.

The way we handle it in the Elevated X pay site CMS software is to approach it 2 ways: We have features for free and/or limited trial areas where someone can sell a trial membership that limits how much content a member can access. It works great.

We also have a "transparent tour" option which is a mirror of the inside of the site so a free surfer can see the whole site but can't get to any of the content besides free video trailers.

Over the years our customers have had a lot of success using combinations of transparent tours and various limited trial setups that encourage people to pay to upgrade to get the full membership and download all they want.

Not sure 1 giant download of the whole site will work any better as a sales tactic. A lot of people don't want the whole site. Even on a giant site like Brazzers or Rk.com most members have no interest in downloading (or storing) every single video.

I could see this being a nice offer for a microniche or a small specialty site where a buyer might prefer a larger 1 time download purchase over a membership.
