I define it as a girl (or guy) in the adult industry who shoots boy/girl scenes. And when she enters a public place (restaurant, bar, nightclub, convenience store, etc.)...people stop in their tracks. Some know exactly who she is and others ask their friends. But she has made enough of an impact and has the "it" factor to actually be recognized (just like a "real" star from Hollywood or a famous musician would).

The other folks who shoot porn are pretty generic and can't really be called "stars" in my humble opinion.

For instance...a no-brainer would be Ron Jeremy. He can walk into any venue and almost everyone knows exactly who he is.

Another one that you might not think of is Vicky Vette. Not everyone will know who she is...but everyone will know she is SOMEBODY that is famous and they will start trying to figure it out (and with her, a lot of folks will already know)

Of course Jenna Jameson had all that mainstream publicity that makes her a porn "star". But I'm not even sure what she looks like these days. If she walked into a room and nobody told me it was her...I wouldn't give her a second thought.

In the end it's probably subjective...but I think a "star" should have star quality that extends to "real" life and not just how many scenes she shot for Brazzers.

And that 'star' quality you describe can vary - depending on the audience. If I were to throw out the names Stacy Burke, Eve Ellis or Darla Crane - most people here on GFY wouldn't know who they are. But amongst BDSM/fetish fans...they'd be household names (so to speak). All three were 'guests of honor' at the first BondCon convention in NYC years ago - and Stacy was Master of Ceremonies that year.

Yet none of them would be recognized on the street.

There are doubtless thousands of bit part actresses who have been in over 100 scenes in third league B movies; but I doubt many of us would recognise them.

By mainstream standards, our Kastle Archives Productions brand isn't known much at all. Yet in the BDSM/fetish arena...it's quite well known by both fans and fellow producers. It always seems weird to me that we can go to a mainstream adult convention (i.e. Everything To Do With Sex in Toronto) and be completely unknown and ignored (to be expected, lol)...yet when we attended Bondcon in 2001 as exhibitors and on-stage presenters, we were approached all weekend long by tons of people who knew our name and have enjoyed our stuff over the years.

Still, I'd never afix the term 'star' to anything we do. We're too humble for that, lol.

Most of the movies I watch are streamed from the internet through my Xbox, Or downloaded to my Surface. I don't think that getting the movies online makes Bruce Willis any less of a movie star.
