Funny how in South Africa minimum wage was used as a tool to make sure blacks could not get a job. Want less blacks to get a job? Just increase the minimum wage. The FDR knew that and implemented the minimum wage. :321GFY

now lets say, the employer invests his hard earned $$ to buy a newer/better machine, with this machine output doubles to 2000/year... so productivity jumps to 200...

so with the logic that Elizabeth Warren proposed, the worker should now be paid double? that's ridiculous...:2 cents:

Thats nice but not the case. I saw that when my Dad worked for a fortune 50 company they kept laying people off and dumping their work on others. If you wanted to keep your job you did it no matter how overwhelmed you are.

I see people in their 20's and older. Paying those people min wage costs you money as a tax payer its below the poverty line so they get gov benefits. So its costs you money. And its not like well they work so they get less, they dont. Cost of goods for raising min wage is 4 cents for McDonald and I was around when it went from $5 to $7 . No mass firings and prices didn't go up thru their roof.
But lets look at this as only about ourselves, if you sell products be it porn, penis pills, personals or lattes at starbucks. If consumers dont have money they cant consume and you are fucked. When some guy is getting out of college with a 4 yr degree to make $10 an hour and 60k in debt. He isnt consuming anything and as a business owner you should find that a very serious matter.
A rising tide raises all boats...
PS: also before commenting on the link actually take the time to look at it.

Don't make walmart a career.
2 NOT True at the wal-marts I know people working at. They are at 9-10+ in a couple of years. Some positions and stores start higher than that. Also 6 years ago Min wage was a LOT less. when Min wage is raised, people making more than that already take a PAY CUT, because most of the time their wage isn't raised.
Walmart also gives 10% off
Match 401K
and healthcare
and Store Bonuses A friend of mine will get quarterly (I think) I know at least twice a year $600-$1200 Bonus.

Minimum wage laws do exactly what they are intended to do - namely elect and re-elect politicians who promote the regulation.

Politicians work to benefit their supporters (e.g. unions in your neck of the woods). Never underestimate the ability of a politician to know which side his bread is buttered.

They are, of course, aided by the village idiots (i.e. bleeding heart and self anointed intellectuals) who promote these ideas. But even these people are only espousing their beliefs in their own self interest. For example, you can't sell an economics book to government schools unless it promotes the beliefs that government employees hold dear.

There are those who get sucked into the fallacious arguments, and these people occasionally show up in the comment sections of websites such as these.

But as always, follow the money (and power) to understand the real motivations of those that create the laws.

Blindly is right, you fucking dumb ass. You STILL haven't answered the question. :disgust

No. If anything, when the minimum wage is increased, jobs paying more than minimum ALSO end up paying more eventually, because minimum is the floor.

What raising the minimum wage will do, is take a handful of coins out of the overflowing coffers of corporate America, and put them in the hands of the workers.

That's the only reason why the Repiggies hate it.

Typical anti-business Democrat, who has openly said numerous socialist and communist ideal's were 'great ideas'. However, only a complete moron would think raising minimum wage is a solution to anything! Raise the cost on the businesses, the costs of goods go up. Its that simple. How in the hell do people not get this?

Which I am sure some would say 'than the government should set prices'. In which I would reply, you're a Marxist too.

Min wage here in Sweden is around $15 an hour but ofc taxes are higher and everything is more expensive.

There couldn't possibly be anything more to stimulating the economy than lowering costs on businesses, right?

I'm not anti-business. I'm anti-greed. I'm anti-crony capitalism. And I'm pro-worker (you know, the ones who actually do the work).

How many of your citizens die because they don't have health care, or go bankrupt from medical bills? What does a college education cost you over there? Just wondering.

No. What is simple is:

1. Labor costs are not 100% of the cost of manufacturing products or running businesses. Thus, anyone who thinks there will be a dollar-for-dollar increase in goods after the minimum wage is raised probably listens to Limbaugh.

2. Businesses charge what the market will bear. (Why do I have to convince people of this?) Prices won't go higher than consumers are willing to pay. If businesses could raise prices AFTER a hike in the minimum wage, then why wouldn't they do it BEFORE one? Wouldn't they make more money? That's what businesses want to do, right?

Exactly right. And that's been the way it is for years. It only benefits the top tax bracket. Some facist-leaning posters surely think that's a good thing.

There is plenty of things that could stimulate the economy, however we're talking about minimum wage. Try to keep up.

You seem pretty angry at me pointing out she's the typical socialist Dem... One can only assume you agree with her. Therefor, you're opinion on capitalism means nothing. Birds of a feather... flock t... er... defend their idols on message boards.

CampHost 03-22-2013 12:08 AM

I'm all about that...

Pay people 22.00 a hour and welfare, foot stamps, medicaid, etc. will be damn near a thing of the past. Folks that work would then do MUCH better than folks that sit on large ASSes. Right now it don't pay for poor people to work.

CampHost 03-22-2013 12:09 AM

foot stamps?.... I guess that's welfare for the foot fetish crowd....

Well in the REAL world, and most jobs I have had, it has NOT Happened that way every time Min wage was raised...

Does that mean ALL Companies, NOPE.

Keep Dreaming, we have a Contract coming up with a Big Company UPS. Let's see what they do..

Oh I see. You live in the "real" world. :321GFY

I'm not suggesting that everybody gets an automatic raise when the minimum wage goes up (with the exception of those actually earning the minimum wage, of course), but that when the floor is raised, the floors above eventually get bumped higher.

That's a great point. The GOP HATES "social programs." But they don't want anybody who accesses those programs to make more money, either. It's kind of like the religious anti-abortion nuts - they want to ban abortion, but they don't support sex education or contraception, either.

They'll give you all sorts of high-minded reasons why they don't want the minimum wage raised. The bottom line, though, is they don't fucking care. That's a pretty ugly thing to admit, and "I don't give a fuck about anyone but myself" is a poor argument, so they'll lecture you on "equilibrium" or give sky-will-fall predictions of inflationary doom if the poor bastards working at WalMart make a few more bucks an hour. If you're lucky, they'll spare you the self-aggrandizing stories about how everything they have is the result of their hard work alone. In the end, it's the old "I got mine, screw you" mindset.
