kind of...lots of drug money was in Panamanian banks and Panama simply nationalized them and took the money...just like that

IIRC The movie Blow mentions it

Connect the dots, GFY style... :winkwink:

I thought that there was a AVN-Cyprus connection somehow...

Theo Sapoutzis and Vasilis "hahahahahaha" K-a-i-l-i-s supposedly raised ?venture capital? about a year ago and bought their way onto the board of directors but there?s no trace of where the venture capital came from.

Vasilis owns a shell corp that specializes in setting up shell corps in Cyprus, there are generally only two reasons to set up shell corps in Cyprus? One is to avoid taxes the other is to hide ownerships.
NOTE: Apparently Vasilis' last name is a banned word on GFY, kind of like the old owner of Mansef's name was.

I believe webzilla hosts a TON of cyprus based companies....anyone have any info on any of that?

adultmobile 03-17-2013 02:54 PM

Government may change this deal a little last minute to avoid revolution and civil war... Cyprus works on last-minute deal to soften bank levy:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...92G03I20130317

Who will take the biggest hit? ?43bn of the ?68bn in Cypriot bank deposits was held by domestic residents. More than ?20bn came from the rest of the world, most of which believed to be from Russia [EDIT: and adult sites]. For example, UK depositors held "only" ?1.9bn in Cyprus.

I wouldnt be surprised to see them change it to foreign accounts and companies only

well, they are doing pretty good in last ten years so I don't know what they want in EU. Last year I visited Turkey for about 10 times and things are looking much better than in all south europe (EU and non-EU). Contrary to Greece or Spain or Croatia, there is no signs of depression or panic on people.

Nobody seems to be reporting from Cyprus....

I am currently in Malta and I saw it on the news as it happened, people were going crazy. I saw a guy that drove some sort of heavy machinery (pardon my lack of knowledge on actual names) and threaten the director of that bank to put it through the wall of that office if he didn't get all his money. Everyone was rushing to the ATMs but the banks had blocked them, it is a total mess.

I remember a farmer in the UK dumping a ton of manure in front of his bank a few years back, I think he did it 2-3 times before the bank caved in and met his demands :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

That's how you get something controversial accepted by the populous, push something through that's unacceptable and then offer a compromise.

Good for him! Banks already screw everyone with fees and I understand this time it is the government doing it but it is just so absolutely unfair to the people.

That is so true.

Sorry to say this but it seem the difference between communism and EU is disappearing bit by bit... The both have in common the total disrespect for private property (including money in the banks..)

They say that a lot of Russians have money in there and they want to tax it... well why doesn't EU uses it's useless public servants to find those particular Russians, instead on hitting everyone ?

slapass 03-18-2013 04:21 AM

Even if they don't do it tomorrow, the money is leaving as no one is going to trust them not to do it next week.

Tom.K 03-18-2013 05:18 AM

so where is now smart to open bank account for this job? I almost opened account and company in cyprus last month. It was just about other circumstances that I prolonged that for May.
