Well, it's just a simplistic view of it all. Criminals go EVERYWHERE they can, not just Thailand. Criminals from other countries flock to the USA too. You just don't hear about it much because the US media has other things to report about like what Jessica Simpson is up to. Americans don't care to hear about some foreign criminal caught there. In Thailand it's huge news.
People do live above the law in many cases, so that is correct. But that is the same for most all developing nations, and even the USA in some situations. Take celebrities for example. How many breaks do they get when they are caught driving drunk or in possession? If you and I get caught in LA doing the same shit Lindsy Lohan has done, we'd both be spending 10 years in prison. She lives above the law.
Sex tourism is huge in Thailand. They say 1 out of 5 people who visit Thailand are sex tourists. What about Amsterdam? How many prostitutes are in the USA? Russia? It is just more accepted here, but if you started comparing numbers of prostitutes across various countries in the world, I'm doubt Thailand is #1 (maybe it is, I don't know). It has just become infamous for it, and rightfully so, as it is everywhere and deeply rooted in their culture. But if you can wrap your brain around this, all the prostitution foreigners see when they come to Thailand is only 2% of it (or so reports say). The other 98% you generally don't see and is for Thai men only.
Whatever the locals do is none of my business. Any country that has extreme poverty has the same problems. The USA has child prostitution too, as do all the other first world countries. Yes, at one time it was really bad on this side of the world but that was a long time ago. Those days are long over. We don't have bars full of 10 year olds selling their ass.
I don't make porn here because it's cheaper. I'm from Ohio, and it was cheaper to produce there. Quite a bit cheaper to be honest. I make porn here and in other crazy countries because that is what made money when I was getting started and no one was interested in girls from Ohio. But when I became the guy who could give them authentic Thai, Cuban, Colombian, and Brazilian girls, shot on location, I was suddenly on the very short list of guys many studios were contacting for foreign content. I had more work than I could ever handle. I also enjoy the excitement of it all, going to new places and trying to do something new there. It keeps the job fun. The prices have absolutely nothing to do with it. If I only wanted to make cheap porn I'd go work in Haiti or back home in Ohio.

Oh yea, it's a raw business. Happens all over the world. Some mules know they are carrying, some don't and think they are delivering something else. We know a girl who thinks she takes make-up to various countries every month and we tried to tell her it's probably drugs but she wouldn't listen. The authorities hardly ever catch those in charge and just nail the mules. It's sad and unjust fr those who don't know what they have in the lining of their bag. But like I said, the police are just not setting people up at random. That is Hollywood nonsense. Do they drop some meth in your room when they arrest you for something else? Maybe. But if you don't break the law you don't have anything to worry about.
