Business question: Why is AFF located in Silicon Valley?

Im sure youre like "Who the fuck cares", but Im asking for a business reason.
Silicon Valley has the highest office rents in the nation, except maybe nyc.
So does it make sense to put your corporate headquarters in the most expensive place?
Is that a good place for business?

Im asking because I started a dating site that is growing and I'm thinking of relocating to a more business friendly city, and dont know if that helps or hurts a small business.

My guess would be that is where the original owners who started the company lived.

I thought they had offices located in Florida as well? Looks like they are headquartered there. As well as offices in NYC and other locations. They are a big business and publically traded company that goes well beyond the scope of an ' Internet Dating Site '

Ding, ding, ding...AFF founder, Andrew Conru, attended Stanford University, which is in Palo Alto, where HP, and tons of other Silicon Valley high tech companies were founded or are located. One of his employees, and a later partner, Lars Mapstead, grew up over the hill in the beachside area of Santa Cruz.

It's expensive to live here, but the quality of life is pretty good if you can afford it.

NOTE: FFN stock is trading at about $0.62 cents today.

Agreed, it's much easier to pick up talent there.

The information is a bit outdated on the "Highest Rents". For an Apartment, yes. For Office space, Sunnyvale/San Jose is not even close.

There's over a million square feet of vacant commercial space within two miles of Tasman and First Street in San Jose. Samsung and Cisco both sit at that intersection. Aff is about 4 miles to the west.

I moved my companies offices to Metro and First street, four miles closer to downtown San Jose two years ago because Samsung wanted $1.90 to renew our lease. I'm fairly certain they actually wanted us to leave.

I picked up a five year lease with four months free rent and the landlord paid for buildout. $1.53 per Square foot.

AFF's office over in Sunnyvale sits back in a business park. The building is nice inside, but not that new. I'm pretty certain their landlord accomodated them with a price closer to market rents rather than lose them.
There is no excuse for ignorance, yet it still remains a powerful force.

                            But for how long?

On February 7, 2013, FriendFinder Networks Inc. ("FFN") received a letter from The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC ("Nasdaq") stating that FFN had failed to comply with the $1.00 minimum bid price required for continued listing of its common stock under Rule 5450(a)(1) and the minimum $15,000,000 market value of its publicly held shares under Rule 5450(b)(2)(C) during the 180 calendar days ending on February 5, 2013 that had been previously provided to FFN to regain compliance and, as a result, FFN's common stock is subject to delisting from The Nasdaq Global Market. FFN intends to appeal the Nasdaq staff determination to a Nasdaq Listings Qualifications Panel (the "Panel"). Although there can be no assurance that the Panel will grant FFN's request for continued listing, the appeal will stay the delisting of FFN's stock from The Nasdaq Global Market pending the Panel's decision.

Originally because of proximity to manufacturing facilites.

Physical location means little these days, what with this strange outgrowth of Silicon Valley, hereinafter refrred to as THE INTERNET!

I spoke to Andrew about this very topic years ago. HE said it was because of talent. Finding tech people in silicon Vally was easier than any other part of America, and growing as fast as they did anywhere else would have been difficult to hire highly talented tech people fast. Yes Andrew loves it there, but anyone that knows Andrew knows he's extremely cost conscious. Keeping AFF in Silicone Valley was due to employee reasons.

as the company has now matured, having it stay there, I dunno....... but growing as fast as they did to the size they are, I get why there were there.

Now read without the word dog.
