Perhaps one of the most patriotic Canadian songwriters ...

He had to place a 2" thick piece of wood on the floor under his stompin' foot ... because too many venues sued him for damage to their floors!

In high school, I had a couple of friends that found out that he lived about 20 mins from their town. They showed up on his doorstep and he invited them in. Drank Molson Export, and Stompin Tom would only drink it warm. (he used to frequent a bar that my sister in law worked at and he insisted that it be run under warm water) RIP to a Canadian legend

Stompin' Tom is truly a great Canadian. His music is something special. I've spent many good times and drank many pints listening to him. I'll always regret not seeing him live.

That is a true Canadian legend. As a kid we'd hang out in a buddy's basement rec room shooting pool and doing phone pranks. There was a stereo system down there we'd play this buddy's dad's weird record collection, first i'd ever heard of Stompin' Tom Connors. We thought the music was hilariously Canadian hick and would sing and stomp along. He was actually really good and a part of Canadian culture that really only survives now in small town Canada - the multiculturalism of big cities and sprawling suburbs has made pure Canadian culture almost invisible. I'm sure in the Maritimes and northern towns it still lives on.

Honestly outside hockey legends Tom Connors would be among a very small group of Canadian legends.

Of course it was Neil .. and Jay, the really tall guy with the fro..who loved to work at fast food joints for a day.. so he could acquire a uniform shirt.

I won some radio contest from cfny a number of years back, 2 tickets to a canada day concert in ottawa. They sent us by train but it was free beer the whole way. Some great bands that day and Stompin Tom was headlining it. He was still a bit older then but that didn't slow him down a bit. Truly a great performer and one of the best show's I've been to.
