    Who here doesn't own or drive a car ???

    Loads of car threads pop up here over the years, but who doesn't actually drive ??

    Sometimes i feel i don't even need a car anymore, but i don't think i could ever give it up. Even with the huge gas prices.

    Anyone stopped because you work from home ?

    Or have you just never taken a driving test before ?

              i gave my truck to my son a year ago when he turned 17. then 2 weeks ago i sold my motorcycle to help my wife get a better vehicle. at the moment i have zero transportation....what to get next?????

                      We have 2. one for around town and the kid and my truck which is mostly for my dogs and hauling things. Wish I could do without but public transportation here is a pain in the ass.

                                  Living in the middle of Amsterdam, its quicker to:

                                  - take a pushbike
                                  - take public transport
                                  - walk

                                  than drive and have to find parking!

                                          I had several cars but not anymore. Where i live it's totally useless to own a car. And i never need one anyway. If i ever move to another place i most likely will buy one again though.

                                              I dont. Lived in Central London, Then oldpart of Amsterdam, Then middle of Barca. So never got round to learning.

                                              Now I live 1/2 way up a mountain, I really do need to learn.

                                                  Yeah you guys have it totally different from what we have here. People on bikes here are usually just targets for motorists.

                                                  Each time i visit Amsterdam, within 10mins i've usually had a few close calls with the trams and people on bikes...Doh!

                                                                  I prefer to use public transport for ecology reasons sometimes, but only when I have extra time because car get me to places faster.

                                                                          I drive 60'000 km - 100'000 km per year, have seen most of Europe by car and couldn't live without one.
                                                                          That is of course, also partly because I have never lived in any bigger city, where there are better ways to get around.
                                                                          I have also driven in Africa, North America, the UK (on the "wrong" side of the road ) and Asia.
                                                                          I love the freedom that comes with being "mobile". The ability to go anywhere at any particular time is probably the biggest reason why I can't imagine having no car.

                                                                                              Most of my friends live outside my town + I like travelling, small weekend trips etc. so I pretty much need one to get some fun. Fucked a lot on the backseat last year (she had her parents at home lol) , but I also love my car so I would not be albe to sell it. ;-)

                                                                                                          Downtown Vancouver isn't that big. Maybe the farthest point to the farthest point would take 25 minutes, but anywhere I go is within 10 minutes. I enjoy walking and am rarely in any kind of rush anyway. I do take the train to the airport when I fly though.

It is so cool to just not worry about it. Also it works out cheaper in Rio but that is with a loss of freedom of course. Also I couldn't do it if I was working in the area at a job or business.

Now my girlfriend and I just share a vehicle. I'm hoping sales pick up again this year (doubtful) so I can get ride of my own again. It's not hugely important I guess since I work from home and rarely go anywhere. I've become kind of a hermit over the years.

The official population here was 11,612,943 on 2012. The unofficial numbers are about 1.5 higher. That means about 10% of Russians live in Moscow.

I would rent them about twice a month for bigger trips, but just took the bus/train/cabs.

                                                                                                                                                                              To be honest, there were some times when it was really cool to no worry about a car, but often I found myself wishing I had one and the inconvenience of not having one drove me nuts. Eventually, the last year I lived up there I ended up getting a car and have had one since.

                                                                                                                                                                                      Try driving though central London, so much easier to take public transport. My sister still lives there and uses her car about once a month.

                                                                                                                                                                                      If I want to go to my state capital. I could drive for 1/2 hour then fuck about trying to park, or I could take the train that costs less than $2 is brand new and clean, runs every 15 minutes into the center of the city, and takes the same time. Also means when there I can have a beer or two.

                                                                                                                                                                                      When I lived 20 miles outside Amsterdam for a year, the bus took 1/2 hour to get into the center, had its own lane on the road, so you'd fly past all the people sitting in cars in a jam. So again took longer by car.

                                                                                                                                                                                      Central Amsterdam to Central Paris.. quicker by train than driving.

I work from home, live in center of crowded city but my car is kind of hobby and pleasure I couldn't live with it. Actually , once happened back in 2008 that I didn't have a car for several months and I was completely different person. Mad, helpless and bored. Of course that I could use bus,tram,taxi,metro..whatever but that is not the point. I like to drive, especially during night when there is no so much traffic. I just go and drive. Chose favorite music and enjoy road, city or going out to nature ,driving from restaurants, drive ins, going to river or whatever you want wherever you want, without need to be with other people in public transportation.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Last summer I've went to Greece by car. Sure, I could do it with airplane, bus, train...but it is stupid. I open my roof (it is convertible) and exploring nature. Yes, it costs, but there is no alternative....I am just watching now rain for last several days. I don't even consider to go out to get wet. I will popup into car and go into underground garage of some market and finish what I need comfortably.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      car is freedom to go anywhere, i definately don't see it as a 'worry'. And i also live near the city center, i can do anything i need to by foot or bicycle, which i also do. But if you want to go somewhere further a car for me is something i wouldn't wanna live without.
                                                                                                                                                                                                      I also never take public transportation, I hate it. Misses all the convenience and comfort of a car.
