In hindsight, it was the right decision for me, as there's no way I would have been in the position I am today had I opted to just stick with a union job as my career choice (and that's even if they had not already sent the job overseas by the time I retired, leaving me wondering about a pension/retirement plan).

I can dig that.

I'm just saying that 95% of people will not, because they cannot, move up past the union like you. That is the only train ticket they are ever going to get.

You can't preach "pie in the sky" to average people because the pie it too fucking high
for them to reach AND THEY KNOW IT!

They got C's not straight A's.

So this idea of "spread your wings and fly to the top" is not going to be part of most people's lives.

My country is a joke and the people are worse, they could care less about the man next to them, and that's one of the few major issues we have, along with the fact most Canadians bend over when asked by our leaders, we have 0 self pride in holding our rights!!

Fell Better.

I can see it from here. come down here to the US. we fight for our shit. The majority do at least. Canadians have their place in the world. like i said, quiet, productive. but if youre for fighting for your rights you should come down here. I promise you, the only gun youll ever see is on a police officer. and you wont die in a random shooting. These guys are clueless. speaking from a-far. Ive seen only a few guns in my life. my own, and those on police officers. and friends

these other people talking about getting guns to their heads must be criminals or people who dont know how to avoid such situation. which is as easy ad being a good person

My wife works for dept of defense. When she decided to apply for a gov't position in such a capacity, she went to night school to re-learn French as she had forgotten most of what she learned in high school. But she took the initiative to actually get qualified versus complaining about it or that it was an unfair requirement.

Canada offers both languages in its public school system, thus it is up to each individual if they actually want to learn it or not. Most, however, blow it off and then complain about the gov't requirements afterwards.

It's a whole lot easier to complain about something than it is to take the initiative to do something about it.

As for the decent jobs being gov't based, I am not sure where you're located, but I've held a couple of VERY lucrative positions that were anything but gov't jobs. And they certainly were not union jobs (I'd never work for a union).

For the record, I cannot speak French either, but understand why there is a requirement for a federal position.

I will agree, however, it's a giant bureaucracy.

(I can't believe I am involved in one these ridiculous dra threads on this rather poor excuse of an adult webmaster business board.... carry on wasting your time ;)

laughed out loud. No one is worried about Canada bro. No one cares to have anything to do with Canada.

you sit silent, and everyone knows you will just nod your head yes to everything the government and everyone else says to you. you may as well be north korea.

department of defense LOL. youre what we call: bitches

bl4h 02-24-2013 04:32 PM

your department of defense is the US. that bullshit DOD you speak of is just to fool you into not accepting the right to bear arms

UnReaL69 02-24-2013 04:59 PM

Apparently the US needs an awful lot of what we produce, as do other nations.

Not true at all. We just don't usually make a big drama out of everything.

Just a thought, but perhaps this is why no one attacks us -- we don't provoke anyone. :winkwink:

On a side note, I'd personally MUCH rather our tax dollars be put into more important issues, like healthcare, education, and appealing to companies to create jobs in Canada, than (over)spending on "defense", while simultaneously eroding my rights and freedoms. Canada, unfortunately, has its fair share of that nonsense too.

Different strokes my friend... we'll agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Having lived in both Canada and the United States, I prefer the US.

I am Canadian, and I live in Capital City of the country. Nearly impossible to get a job here unless you speak the minority french language. Even jobs like a Garbage Truck guy who throws trash into the back requires being fluent in English and french, reading, writing and speaking.. It's horrible.

That is why I got into the adult biz. I can't find any jobs here because I am automatically shut out due to the fact that I only speak the MAJORITY language.
Luckily, USA is truly a land of freedom and I am able to work for USA over the internet while residing in Canada.

Canada doesn't seem to want me, so I will quite happily contribute to helping the US economy. :)

I agree with you 100%.

The last time I looked for a job was in the late 80's. I was into computers and had become an easy expert at Novell Networking when I applied for a job at a bigshot company. They loved my resume and agreed to pay me what I wanted (I was cocky) and we shook hands. JUST before I walked out the door he says "oh by the way, Parlez-vous francais?"

*FUCK*

Despite the fact that I was going to be working with Engineers in the US and the UK, and despite the fact that I was going to be working with some US imports, and despite the fact that he told me I was the best candidate he had interviewed since they started trying to hire someone for the position, I was denied the job because my french wasn't good enough.

At that moment I decided to give up completely and never even bother trying to work for another company. The SHIT that the Quebec government imposes on people and companies over language just to "protect Quebec culture" is insane. So I gave up job hunting and decided to work for myself. I've been doing it for 20 years now and its awesome.

hes just bullshitting. i live in ottawa and the majority of my friends only know english and they are all employed at good jobs. sure, if you want to work in certain government jobs you need to be bilingual but not all and its not like government is the only game in town...

Sure, in Quebec is very different..The 'language police' they have there is something you won't see anywhere else in the country. My buddy who is a plumber won't even cross the river here because he could get fined for not having bilingual signs on his van. Totally retarded but honesty, if I decided to live in Quebec, I would make sure I know the language because otherwise, you're really limited. I personally will never live in Quebec simply because I don't see myself ever learning the language and the last thing I would want to do is have to deal with people in various situations from every day bullshit to healthcare and not be able to understand it. For the english people who have lived in quebec for generations, it really sucks. you're basically a second class citizen speaking english in quebec but for those not stuck there, there is a whole country out there that doesn't do that.

Sophie Delancey 02-25-2013 08:09 AM

Ugh. 2 and 4 are in complete opposition of each other. There is no definite Canadian culture... We're all immigrants asides from First Nations people... This is the type of blatant ignorance I've come to expect here.

I think you really don't know that much about canada or canadians and are just going by stereotypes. There are fights for a lot of things here. We fought for universal healthcare, we fought for freedom in WW1 and WW2. women fought for the right to vote and won a couple years before the US passed the same amendment. just recently after outrage over a new bill that would make internet surveillance more prolific it was tossed out. And not to mention how lately so many countries are looking to canada and seeking advice as to how canada didn't get hit with the recession like most of the world did. we may not be screaming from the mountaintops to 'look at me' but we're here.

well the US sends more exports to canada than any other country. Canada is second for imports to the US. China is first. we both benefit from each other.

madm1k3 02-25-2013 12:40 PM

yeah Canada sucks, I mean who would want to live in a democratic country with little population and never ending natural resources.

Yeah Canada exports nothing the USA needs at all.

Oh wait quick internet search shows USA imports the majority of their oil from Canada, wow and the USA loves oil.

Just be happy we don't make your president bow to our leader like the USA's second biggest supplier

Saying that country like Canada sucks says enough about person who can say such thing.Put a voting here to see what other people not from US and CA,think about Canada. As I am concerned, all best. Insulting other countries, people and it's culture also says about person who is doing that.

I was actually in Montreal this weekend. A friend of mine lives there. He is born and raised French Canadian and hates it. This seems to be the ultimate consensus of everyone he knows as well except for the people on this board. I am not sure about people outside of the Quebec Province who are not forced to do everything in French, but from speak with all of his friends and family there. It seems to be getting a little out of control. People can speak about America all they want and about making laws to better your country. Thats all fine and dandy, but my friend just opened up a convenience store, I believe they are called 'Dep's'. The Government gets to decide if the name he wants for his store is ok or not, because it does seem to be french enough for them. You are not as forced into the French culture in France, as much as you are in Quebec. (this is what my friend who lives there is saying). This seems a little overboard for me. I must say though. The food in Montreal is excellent. It is a beautiful city. I wish to go back in the summertime as it snowed basically everyday this weekend.

Oh yea, and what the fuck is it with splitting checks? I dont get that.
