Its a 2 hour show, they had to keep the viewer's interest the entire time so of course they were gonna build the drama, but doesn't mean its fake. I think they do a great job even being able to make a show out of it when basically 90% of what happens is just moving dirt and equipment breakdowns. Next season looks interesting as the Hoffmans go to South America.

I think GR is one of the very few shiws that's actually kinda real.
Amazing when you think of it. Basically all the current reality shows are fake as fuck. It's ridiculous.

It was too long. They tried for drama. They tried all kinds of stuff and then the final numbers were right about where you thought they would be.

Also lets face it, if they were making huge bank, those two guys would not have quit.

I didn't think much of the live portion. It seemed corny to me. It would have been better if they kept the normal format and then did interviews-- group and one-on-one later on.

I don't believe it's fake but I think at times it is scripted where they will go back and read lines to capture something which already happened or where something happened that the crew or film would not want to show it otherwise. Sometimes when they talk you can hear that it's almost ho-hum and scripted where it might have been rehearsed.

To me the biggest letdown was the final totals. All season long we are being told that someone hits the mother load then last week we are told we will find out who hit the mother load only to find out that the final cleanouts, while decent, weren't huge and the "mother load" they had been talking about all season was just how much the Hoffman's had gotten as a season total. Basically we knew 90% of what they told us already.

I wish I had DVR'd it so I could have just fast forwarded to the end.

i dont think its fake as much as simply steered by the producers to guarantee drama. I mean, todd hoffman fucks up everything he touches. i wouldnt let him shine my shoes, let alone run a goldmine.

They basically spent two hours doing a recap of the season and interviewing the guys. The interviews gave zero insight. They were a waste of time. The recaps, if you had seen the season were also a waste of time. They did spend about 15-20 minutes showing what each crew did the last week of the season which was good. They also showed what each crew is planning for next season.

The entire time they kept teasing how they were going to reveal who hit the mother load and they edited the part with all three's last week's work to look like anyone of them could have hit a big patch of gold only to finally reveal that they all got reasonable amounts that week. The mother load was what the Hoffman's got with a total of around 810 ounces. Since we already knew they had about 730 it was no big shock. The show could have been 30 minutes long.
