Dog story with a heartwarming ending!

This rather tugged at my heart strings today.

Recently our local newspaper ran a story about an aging dog that was viciously attacked by three neighbourhood pitbulls that had gotten loose. The dog was badly injured during the attack and rushed to a local vet for emergency surgery.

Subsequently - the vet bills quickly climbed to more than $3,000. A donation page was started...and local citizens have already donated more than $4,300!

Thanks to the great work by the vets and passerbyers that helped during the attack, it looks as though the dog is going to pull through.

Thought when you said dog story and happy ending that there was going to be peanut butter involved in this story somehow...

Waiting for Silly Rant to come in and make a post defending the pitbulls, and calling the cops heartless criminals.

A recent update to the story says the dog is steadily improving, although they have to monitor it closely for infection.

It just blew my mind how quickly they raised over $4k in donations - in less than 24hrs. This is a relatively small community (under 100k pop.) with high unemployment and strained economics.

edit - now up to $4,900! Damn!

                FYI Dog owners:

Although you can't do it to a dog that is attacking you, because they are way too fast and you'll never get ahold of them, a dog that is already biting something (your dog) can be choked unconcious very quickly.

What you want to use is the rear naked choke:

Just remember that a dog can spin its head 180 degrees and bite so you want to keep your chest firmly against the bag of its head so it doesn't let go of your dog and turn on you. Just keep choking it with steady pressure. Don't burn out your arm strength all at once by going as hard as you can. Just nice steady pressure.

I've broken up several dog fights like this. It's fast, effective and relatively safe for all parties.
