Gun Insurance Bill In New York To Require Liability Coverage

    Interesting.

Gun insurance bill in New York to require liability coverage

The new proposal from State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz suggests that owners will need to be covered.

Bill S2353 has just been introduced into the New York State Assembly by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D-Brooklyn), which would make it required for residents of the state to have to obtain liability gun insurance in order to be able to own a firearm.
The bill identifies not only the minimum coverage but also the consequences for failure to buy a policy.

And just how do you think they got in the hands of criminals in the first place?

"Should the firearm ever be stolen or lost, it must be reported to the police immediately. Should a crime occur involving the use of that weapon, before the report has been made which informs the police of the loss or theft, then it is the gun’s owner who will be held liable."

So they are trying to do it like cars. The owner, not the user, is financially responsible for misuse. I've always thought that was the dumbest thing.

Great way to solve a good conflict
Americans don't want to have the big brother evil government monitoring their gun ownership so they pushed it over to corporate America. More tax revenues and less paperwork for the government
Why would any gun owner be pissed, isn't this what they wanted ?

Legislative measure likely to see resistance on constitutional grounds

No state has ever approved of a gun liability insurance legislation in the history of the U.S. Over the past decade, several such legislations have been rejected throughout the country, 15 of which coming from New York. Opponents of such measures suggest that liability insurance would limit people?s constitutional rights by imposing financial pressure on those that choose to own guns. Another issue is that insurance companies cannot be forced to offer gun liability insurance companies, thus further limiting people?s ability to purchase and own firearms.

And thus it begins. The fucking gun owners bitched like little babies without accepting the fact that innocent children died, and now we'll have to carry insurance on our firearms. Watch this. If this makes it out to California, how much will I have to pay - three assault rifles and three handguns? It will be more than my car insurance for sure!

                Fucking NRA fucked us hard.

I'm not a gun nut by any means, but it would seem to me that the more red tape a person needs to cut through to buy something legally, the more likely they will just buy that something, illegally.

Same with associated expenses. If legally purchasing a firearm requires additional and ongoing costs (like insurance), then simply based upon economics, illegal sales will inevitably increase.
