Got a black and white laser printer. It was cheap and works great. After printing hundreds of pages it starts telling me toner low. Gives a warning every time I print. I go buy another cartridge and decide to wait until its printing blanks. Well its 2 months and around 100 pages later and guess what? It's still printing fine. I wonder how long before its really done. The new toner is sitting in the box in the closet.

Man if you are printing just text, it's a great deal. The new cartridge I got was $70 and it yields 2600 pages. Thats the one sitting in the box in the closet.
I got the brother wireless printer I think for $129. It was so worth it, compared to an inkjet.Comment

Printers always been shit, but they seem to be getting worse. I've gone through one at least every 6 months, and I don't even use it that much. Either the wi-fi doesn't work from the beginning, or it stops working sometimes, or paper gets jammed all the time, or it just sits there when you hit print. It's always some bullshit to deal with right when you have a printing emergency. I lost track of how many printers I've thrown in the dumpster because the piece of shit pissed me off too much. Then I drive to Best Buy and get another brand. I've been through various models of Canon, Epson, Brother, Hewlett Packard. I don't know how many more brands I can try before I find the one printer that'll last for a few years.
With all of the crazy technology we have, why can't someone make a printer that prints consistently?Last edited by bronco67; 02-04-2013, 07:27 PM.

for the Brother printers, the starter cart will give you a low warning really early. There's a little hole on it that you can cover with tape to get rid of the warning.Webmaster Coupons Coupons and discounts for hosting, domains, SSL Certs, and more!

Nothing gives me more office stress than a printer that doesn't work.

There's nothing worse than a fucking printer.
Rowan is right- they make their money on the cartridges. They even set their printers up to refuse to use the cartridge well before it's "empty". There are ways around that on some of them.
Fuck printers.Comment

I agree I remember they would give the lexmark printer free with desktops. Those printers sucked up inkjet ink. lolComment

I had a brother laser printer that did the same thing. It printed for about another year before actually running out.Comment

I have an HP color Laserjet printer that has been giving me the same low ink warning for over a month and a half now. And I print a LOT of model releases and 2257 docs. Must be hundreds of pages so far. It actually stopped giving me the low ink warning at this point. I have an extra cartridge in my desk drawer, but I'm waiting to see how long I can go before it actually runs out.Comment

I have gone almost a year on my HP 2100 Laserjet. I just take out the cartridge and shake it once an awhile when the pages start to get light. I have printed at least 500 pages since I first got the low level warning.Comment

Been looking into doing the same thing myself. By the way, check on amazon, that same toner(the TN450 I assume) is about $46 on there.Comment

Thanks , I bought it a while ago at Staples. Usually I buy stuff like that online, but we were out and I was like we got the low toner warning, thinking the next day I would be out of ink. lolComment

Thats amazing and what a scam they run with the low toner warning.Comment

This is one reason I still keep my 8 year old printer... there's no chip on the ink tanks, so although the printer warns me it still lets me print until the ink really does run out.
I buy generic ink for paper black, only use genuine for photo colours. The generic ink costs roughly 1/7th that of genuine. A full set of genuine inks costs $100+. We're being royally ripped off.Comment
