Photography Question - Help Please

So I have been speaking with a top shelf magazine in the UK and they like the look of some of our stuff... however they want the pics in 300 dpi... and in jpg format...

When I check my images they are not 300 dpi, how do I make them 300 dpi please ?

I have the raw images... do I have to re process them somehow from RAW ? I use lightroom usually... is there a way to do this ?

300 dpi is on the printers, not on the digital photographer.... there is no dpi on your computer screen... open an image in photoshop.... usually when you check they are 240 dpi.... just change it to 300 dpi.... be a bit smaller on the pixels but not much...

Ned to know more about your workflow to make a suggestion such as do you edit your photos at all, do you shoot JPEG AND Raw at the same time and if so what resolution on the JPEG, etc...

Step down resolution all the time in PS, never tried it in Lightroom 4 which I have, but I cant see how it would not be there.

Increasing resolution with re-sampling images may not be in LR but works OK in PS.

Create action in photoshop, use resize on sample image, and let batch with your action to take care of all of your pics.

Thanks All...

Thanks all for your input, but I really do need a fools guide...

These are images that have already been edited, but I do have the origial JPG and RAW if needed...

The mags want them at 300 dpi... and currently they are 72 dpi... I have Photoshop CS5.1 currently... would be nice to set up a action, I just aint seeing where I set the dpi

Ok...

Actually I think I worked it out... I used the image size, and did it in there...

However can someone remind where to find the "resize" bit... I know I used it before to set up a batch action when re sizing my images... ??? Thanks

300 dpi is essentially 3300 pixels by 2550 pixels.

You take the required DPI and multiply it by the inches of the required image, assuming a full page is 11 inches by 8.5. This is your starting point, pretty much.

Lightroom is easy. Select (highlight) all the images you want to convert. Then from the menu choose File>Export. That will show an export window. In that window you choose location to export, if you want to rename the files, file settings (save as jpeg), image sizing (here is where you can specify 300ppi and the longest pixel side). Click Convert and sit back and relax

i use PS and have an action set up so i convert and entire set shot in NEF (Nikon raw), the conversion includes color, white bal, un-sharp mask, seizing and output to TIFF in SRGB.
Most magz will want TIF and not jpegs... just saying.

Yeah, Lightroom makes it pretty easy to process and export from RAW once you know where to click.
