very sad. this guy was trying to help a fellow vet suffering PTSD. say what you will about his 15 minutes of fame. But this guy served his country, saved some of our soldiers lives, & gave of his time to help others. he coulda just retired, not helped this vet, he would be alive right now. but its an unfortunate reality helping others (cops, firemen etc) can get you killed. No doubt there will be roads or buildings named in his honor, unlike his critics in this thread. RIP.

As a ex-military myself (artillery - Canadian Armed Forces) I don't fault the sniper for doing his job...and apparently doing it well. He did his duty and served his country. But I simply don't understand his prediliction for openly glorifying it publicly through the media.

There was a great documentary years ago called The Truth About Killing (I think it's on Youtube) about how the military started to 'reprogram' soldiers, after statistics in Vietnam showed how they were deliberately missing, due to a natural human aversion to killing other human beings. The same was true of earlier wars too.

Apparently only about 2% of soldiers were capable of killing; half of them for heroic reasons, to protect their comrades, and half of them because they were psychopaths. This guy seems to fall squarely into the latter category.
