15-year-old Chicago girl gunned down a week after she performed during President Obama?s inaugural !

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013...shes-gone?lite

Another day in America ...

Quote:
A 15-year-old Chicago girl gunned down a week after she performed during President Obama?s inaugural festivities was remembered Wednesday as a ?walking angel? ? the last person her family could imagine dying by a bullet.

Hadiya Pendleton was an honor student, a marching-band majorette, and a doting big sister who thought about becoming a journalist or a pharmacist or even getting into politics after she witnessed history in Washington last week.

The biggest trouble the insatiable reader ever gave her parents: running up their credit card buying books on Amazon.

?I couldn?t ask for a better child,? her mother, Cleo Cowley, said through tears at her Chicago home. ?She didn?t give me any hard time at all. She had a heart of gold.?

A sophomore at Chicago?s selective King College Prep High School, Pendleton was walking with fellow members of the volleyball team in a park Tuesday afternoon when the skies opened. They ducked under a canopy to get out of the rain, joining other teenagers.

At that moment, Chicago police say, a gunman came running down an alley behind the park, opened fire and then darted into a waiting vehicle and took off. No arrests have been made.

Pendleton was struck in the upper back, and a 16-year-old schoolmate was hit in the leg. They ran about a block before she collapsed on the street, police said. She died at the hospital.

When it happened, her mother was at work at the TransUnion credit company, in a meeting. Her cellphone rang and she saw it was one of her daughter?s friends and quickly answered.

?She was screaming on the phone that Hadiya?s been shot, she?s been shot, and I just didn?t understand,? said Cowley. ?I had to get someone to help me understand that my baby has been shot.?

The murder ? about a mile from Obama?s Chicago home ? quickly caught the attention of Washington during a day of debate over gun violence.

The White House called it a ?terrible tragedy,? and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called the shooter a ?gangbanger? and a ?punk? who had stolen the dreams of a girl with a bright future.

Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill, was emotional as he spoke about Pendleton?s inauguration activities during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on guns.

?Just a matter of days after the happiest day of her life, she?s gone,? he said.

Cowley said the trip to Washington ? an invitation to a band competition that was part of the inauguration festivities -- was ?everything? to her daughter.

?She was extremely excited about it, to go there and witness history and perform at the Capitol. She told me, ?Mom, I might think about getting involved in politics,?? she said.

For the moment, though, she was focused on traveling with the band to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and a planned educational trip to Dublin, Paris and London in March. ?She even thought about studying abroad,? her mother said.

...
Too bad she wasn`t packing ... This would not have happened

I'll bet the shooter if caught will be out on parole or have a record but still allowed to walk the streets.

Why didn't she have an ar-15 for self defense? This obviously wouldn't have happened.

Our strict gun control laws won't allow minors to purchase firearms.

It IS Chicago, you know, the city with one of the highest rate of gun violence rates in the USA!

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/30/us...nted=all&_r=1&

Ban Chicago?

"Strict Gun Laws in Chicago Can?t Stem Fatal Shots
By MONICA DAVEY

CHICAGO ? Not a single gun shop can be found in this city because they are outlawed. Handguns were banned in Chicago for decades, too, until 2010, when the United States Supreme Court ruled that was going too far, leading city leaders to settle for restrictions some describe as the closest they could get legally to a ban without a ban. Despite a continuing legal fight, Illinois remains the only state in the nation with no provision to let private citizens carry guns in public.

And yet Chicago, a city with no civilian gun ranges and bans on both assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, finds itself laboring to stem a flood of gun violence that contributed to more than 500 homicides last year and at least 40 killings already in 2013, including a fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl on Tuesday.

To gun rights advocates, the city provides stark evidence that even some of the toughest restrictions fail to make places safer. ?The gun laws in Chicago only restrict the law-abiding citizens and they?ve essentially made the citizens prey,? said Richard A. Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. To gun control proponents, the struggles here underscore the opposite ? a need for strict, uniform national gun laws to eliminate the current patchwork of state and local rules that allow guns to flow into this city from outside.

?Chicago is like a house with two parents that may try to have good rules and do what they can, but it?s like you?ve got this single house sitting on a whole block where there?s anarchy,? said the Rev. Ira J. Acree, one among a group of pastors here who have marched and gathered signatures for an end to so much shooting. ?Chicago is an argument for laws that are statewide or, better yet, national.?

Chicago?s experience reveals the complications inherent in carrying out local gun laws around the nation. Less restrictive laws in neighboring communities and states not only make guns easy to obtain nearby, but layers of differing laws ? local and state ? make it difficult to police violations. And though many describe the local and state gun laws here as relatively stringent, penalties for violating them ? from jail time to fines ? have not proven as severe as they are in some other places, reducing the incentive to comply.

Lately, the police say they are discovering far more guns on the streets of Chicago than in the nation?s two more populous cities, Los Angeles and New York. They seized 7,400 guns here in crimes or unpermitted uses last year (compared with 3,285 in New York City), and have confiscated 574 guns just since Jan. 1 ? 124 of them last week alone........"

This is not a gun problem that caused this tragedy it is a cultural and societal problem.

That's not the answer and you sound like an ignorant faggot every time you say that sarcastic bullshit...

America has a deeper cultural problem with violence and negativity. It wasn't caused by guns, guns are just caught up in the mix because they are one of the tools used by the violent and negative people.

Chicago has the strongest gun laws in America. But you are right, if average citizens could have a kill a criminal pass for just one day the city would be much safer once the smell of gunpowder dissipated.

If guns are the problem then why isn't every single American kid running around shooting each other like those gangster kids in Chicago?

Hmm, probably because it's not the guns that are the problem, but the mentality and culture of the gangsters.

Your right.

I was watching the John Stewart show and he had this guy on - Ed Costa I think his name was - and he said that we have made changes to society without having to change the Constitution... Racial discrimination against blacks and gays; Cigarettes are still legal but such taboo that most of us don't do it. This is what we'll need to do with firearms - make it so it is more taboo and less of a sport.

And people might not notice this but there is already a change coming on. It's starting in the schools, where kids are seeing that shootings have become common place. They talk about this stuff in school, and they see it on TV. The next generation coming up - the ones who will grow up thinking that everyone gets an award even when they come in dead last - will grow up thinking that firearms are evil, and most will shy away from them.

I honestly don't know if that's good or bad.

For a while, "gangsta rap" had dissipated in a sense... it was less about guns and violence and I actually appreciated that. But seeing how popular Chief Keef has become really troubles me, because kids and young adults WILL emulate him and his behavior and it's only going to get worse out there... especially on the streets of Chicago.

That poor girl was huddled under an awning to avoid rain... and my parents wonder why I'm afraid to bring a child into this world. I'm absolutely terrified. I called my parents this evening and they said the worst they feared sending me to school was that I'd come home with chicken pox, and once I came home with that, everything else was a piece of cake. They never had the worries parents today have.

It's nothing new really...

Chief Keef is just one of the new youngsters in the game to take the torch...

And people are stupid enough to believe that all of this has no negative effects on the youth and the public...

People will tell you all of this happens simply because it's "what sells," but when you look deeper into this you will find that Hollywood and the entertainment industries have reasons other than money for why they choose to promote the things that they do...

I agree that it's nothing new, but I'm dumbfounded by anyone who doesn't realize just how big of an effect this has on our youth and the public in general... give a kid Call of Duty or whatever shooting game is fun, have him listen to Chief Keef and watch his videos, then tell me what that kid's mind is going to be full of?

For the 100th time on this board, the murder rate is down 50% in Chicago. 500 is A LOT but considering they used to clock nearly 1,000 some years it is a huge improvement.

Chicago police reported the seizure of 7,400 guns used in crimes, or that were unpermitted, in the past year ? nearly double the 3,285 reported for New York City for the same time frame. That?s despite the fact Chicago has the toughest gun-control laws in the nation, prohibiting sales within the city and, until the Supreme Court found it unconstitutional in 2010, banning handguns.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...e-claims-gun-/

A bloody weekend in which seven people were killed and six wounded has put an abrupt end ? at least for now ? to hopes that Chicago was at least putting a lid on its frightening homicide rate.

With a few days left in the month, the nation's third-largest city now finds itself on the cusp of its deadliest January in more than a decade.

Yup, people are only concerned with the things that the MSM wants them to be concerned with.

What about these people who were murdered? Where's the threads and outcry over their deaths?

you're linking to mainstream news sites reporting those murders and complaining that the msm only reports what they want you to know about?

certain victims such as what looks like the random killing of a 15 year old female with a promising future ahead of her and a connection to the president obviously create more chatter than other murders.. just the way it is for reasons that are clear to most.

There's a difference between reporting something and constantly making it your main story on the front page of everything and having it be the topic of all your pundit's discussions, etc...

i've never seen so many gun threads on GFY. the newtown massacre has seriously amplified the peoples attention to gun deaths. thing is, NRA is so powerful on the hill that nothing substantive that would address either gun availability or mental health will get through the house. Congress is hopelessly for sale.

Mental health? What are you going to do? Give people more pills? The same pills that clearly label "psychosis" and "homicidal ideation" as their side effects? lol

something more then nothing would be helpful in terms of qualifying a person to own a gun. there is no panacea. but dont imply or state nothing should be done to try to prevent wingnuts from getting guns. if thats crazy to you, there is nothing for us to discuss.

TBH, the NRA is not as powerful as they used to be . . . but MSM does not want you to know that either.

IMO they can't get any stronger then now. the pendulum in favor of gun rights has swung so far in their favor. Things like that self defense law in florida that has complicated the treyvon martin case. A fucking guy shoots another guy with skittles & the DA looks at the law & says, no crime here! its just absurd now.

If only Chicago had stricter gun laws. While they are at it they should make piracy illegal too. That should stop everything bad.

They also hurt themselves badly in the last month or so. After that school shooting they had the perfect opportunity to sit down with lawmakers and have an intelligent, meaningful and reasonable discussion on ways to help keep guns away from those who are mentally ill and might use them in this manner. They could have acted in a responsible manner. Instead they just said we need more guns and armed guards in schools. They also said it was violent video games causing this then the very next day released their own first person shooter game.

They should make wearing full body Armour compulsory for all school age children, with mandatory full life sentences for anyone not complying on a three strikes and your out basis.

aside from the track which is a copy of millions of these kind of uninspired tracks, the video reminds me of this:
