Entering the USA from Canada with a DUI?

I've read alot of contradicting things online about this and haven't found the definable rule stating whether or not I can cross borders with a single DUI offense on my record. Has anyone crossed or been rejected from Canada to the US with a DUI?

from what i know DUI's and domestic assaults don't matter when crossing the border. any other criminal charges no matter how old do though.

They can deny you if they want but usually don't.

check out the us immigration site? believe you need to get some form of documentation about it, but you're not prevented

Good luck on that one, play cool and you should not have any problems.

I been denied for a DUI that happened in 95-96 back in 04. Since then I've crossed once.

i believe it is up to the customs official you are speaking to. So be nice.
If they want to ask you more they will take you to another area for further questioning. How you answer, act and look will determine a lot.

Yup that is exactly what the officer who refused me entry said. He also gave me a sheet with the reason for being denied. He thought I could be a threat to the US of A

I have to say that sounds pretty unlikely. My mother is a US citizen. As an unmarried child over the age of 21 that puts me in category 1 for a green card. Right now, category 1 is taking 7 years to process. Unlikely any "friends" are going to be able to change that. There's only so many given out each year.

If you have never crossed with the DUI already and your a Canadian > Get your record sealed with a pardon before you go and you don't have to tell them about it.

But looks like one might not be bad :X

I was able to pass through US airports on my way to European and Asian countries without any hassle, is the US really that much more stringent than the rest of the world when it comes to short visits? I guess it wouldn't be surprising.

i had an old criminal record from when i was 18. i used to be able to cross like nothing before 911. however when i tried a few years ago i was handcuffed and fingerprinted and warned if i came back i would be arrested. they were total dicks. 1 charge 17 years ago was all it took. we were just going sightseeing in NYC for a few days.

You need an I-192 waiver if you have ever been charged in Canada. DUI is a criminal offense, so yes you can be refused entry into the USA.

I never had any problems at the border until going to work on my server equipment at our colo racks. The customs guys weren't bad but we had to do a ton of paperwork and get faxes sent and then phone calls to verify that it's my own company and equipment. Basically they were concerned about people working without visas. In the end I moved all my servers back to Canada because it's not worth the hassles, better just to pay slightly higher bandwidth prices.
