I suddenly feel like French today..

Smoking Gitane, wearing suit trousers and converse with a knee long rain coat .. having a glass of red wine and a bite of fresh bread combined with some strong coffee at the corner bistro, jumping into my old citroen to drive to the gallery I run ...

I eat azymes
I drink a lot of coffee (german sized) and anyway i don't go to the bistro...

Belgian waffles, I think they are known as this in anywhere but Belgium, doesn't mean they are American. I've had Belgian waffles in England, Canada and Holland/The Netherlands.

The Belgians also invented what I know as chips, not sure if they were responsible for fries. Fries may be French but in France they are simply frites or Fries but not French.

A French Canadian may not know what a Citreon is, they don't have them in Canada.

Most French people who are atleast slightly culinary educated would dismiss poutine as western merde.

And no I'm not bashing Quebec, it's a beautiful province.

If you don't live in the UK you ought to here about the weird new rules here. You can't call something directly, if it doesn't come from there.

Like a Cornish pasty can't be called a Cornish pasty unless it is from Cornwall. Etc.

So a Wiener, wouldn't be able to be called a Wiener unless it was from Wien (Vienna).

Or, I think they have to be called "styled" like Chinese "styled" rice, because it isn't from China etc.

Got the oe round the wrong way. Yes Citroen.

How many people in Canada, let alone Quebec, know what Citroen is? Peugot is probably more well known, because of F1? Or I am wrong?

The French, perhaps. But much in the same way I can get a four-dollar poutine in Toronto for ten bucks because they call it "Quebec Style Poutine" (inevitably written in cursive font), real Quebec poutine is much like real Montreal Smoked Meat - often imitated, never equalled.

We in Quebec are proud of our poutine and have very high standards and a "poutine index" if you will. Those who think it is but swill simply have lower culinary educations...

Truly, as you say, weird... but hey everywhere I go that has Smoked Meat or Pizza that isn't done the way they're usually done wherever I go in the states, I find it cool that at least they have the class to say "Montreal Style" smoked meat or pizza or whatever...

When I smoked, Camel were my favorite too, at leasst for quite a few years, strong, but really good. At some point, they weren't that good anymore though - either my taste had changed or the market was flooded with fakes, could be that they had changed the tabaco, not entirely sure, but I moved to other brands.

Gitane had a strong smell from what I remember, not my cap of tea
