Well I have 300k uv's a day and 150k videos. I've heard some different opinions and have done some research I guess I need a custom config server. If you have info that could help me customize Mechbunny please post. Please dont spam stock servers or hosting companies. Thanks You! This will be a cpanel based server and have security and backups.

ditch cpanel if you go managed, 10TB bandwidth isn't much either but hard to say if it's enough without knowing the size etc of your videosLast edited by AdultEUhost; 01-14-2013, 06:17 PM.Comment

get a proper hosting company who does your server management.
why would you need cpanel if you have 1 site? to create a mailbox every now and then? Just open a ticket and your host can take care of it.
Running cpanel with all the features it comes with will cost you performance
In general somebody managing the box who know what he/she is doing and can optimize and tune your setup will gain more than what you might think.
Think of it this way; if you have a car but a person who doesn't know to change gears you will never get the full performance out of the carComment
-
most likely yes although you could setup nginx/lighttpd additionally.
Obviously without any control panel you can set it up any way that fits best into your needs and is often recommend and the way to goComment
-
Optimal performance depends as much on your software as hardware.
What web server are you running ?Comment

Apache I think is the only option b/c I need cpanel because I have a bunch of other sites I still have to host on my main server (I know it is what it is with 2 servers too $$$). So that's what I need cpanel for. What I need to know is the best configuration possible for the server such as raid type, etcComment

Why not put all your other sites on their own server and dedicate a machine to your tube ?Apache I think is the only option b/c I need cpanel because I have a bunch of other sites I still have to host on my main server (I know it is what it is with 2 servers too $$$). So that's what I need cpanel for. What I need to know is the best configuration possible for the server such as raid type, etc
Also, why not ask Konrad these questions ? He is surely the most qualified and he gives good support by all accounts.Comment

cPanel is a resource hog, and with enough optimisations Apache is excellent, I suggest Nginx though.

You can install Nginx on a CPanel server, there are some free and paid plugins to do this.
10TB transfer is probably going to limit you, you're better off buying by pipe size and not amount of transfer.
I wouldn't be running non essential sites on your tube server, best to separate them.
The best thing for you to do is first consider the software you are running and then tailor the hardware to match it.Comment
-
What I would do is have a single server setup for your tube (and other sites one another server) No cPanel, and using Nginx... Like AK said, have a pipe size and not an amount of transfer, and once you start getting close to maxing out your Mbps I'd put in some upstreams and load balancing on Nginx to pass off to a second server, and also use the second server as your media server via the upstream, that way while you're growing in the first server, yourtube.com/video/files/go/here.mp4 will load, but after you expand to the second server, you can move the video files over, and upstream the /video/ folder to the second server via Nginx and the videos will still load, just as if they existed on the current server, except they don't and are taking some of the load off.
Hope this helps.

For fucks sake, all they did was buy your sig now they are highly recommended by you. Why don't you try to save just a little bit of dignity after your Chill Vault fiasco. Sure, blame it on Adult SEO Labs, but it's all the same people. You can sell your sig without being a useless whore. Just sayin.Comment

How does this sound guys?
Dell PowerEdge R420 Server
CPU: Intel Hex Core E5-2430L, 2.00GHz, 15M Cache
RAM: 32GB
Disk Controller: RAID 1 - 2x 500GB SATA
Bandwidth: 20Mbps Included
I recommend: 4x 3TB in a RAID5 -- that will give you 9TB usable, that's another $200
Full Management
100 GB System Backup
Monthly fee: $1000
Then there is the CDN, $3/MbpsComment

300,000 views of videos is pretty huge. For a single server I imagine it to be quite slow too... How much bandwidth are you currently using? Are all 300,000 of those watching 1 or more videos?
A better software configuration is a must and if you can I'd consider using more than single server. It might actually be more cost effective to run a few lower end servers than one big beefy one.Comment

That't not nessesarily huge. The real bottleneck is disk io on video downloads. If for instance he doesn't host the vids himself and uses embeds or sponsor videos, then a single server should be able to handle that without any problems.300,000 views of videos is pretty huge. It's really next to impossible to predict how much server power someone needs for a tube...all the vids are different bitrates, you don't know how the users will behave (1 video each or 10 each, watch whole video or 10 seconds and move to the next one around in it, or skip around in one video, etc)...too many variables.Mechanical Bunny Media

Your hosting provider should tell you the best setup for your needs but usually the best is:
1 Server for script + mysql (24 GB RAM, SSH Hard drive, Latest Xeon)
1 or more servers working in load balancing to host videos
This setup should be good for almost unlimited number of usersTelegram: @BeavercashComment

Virtualmin and ISPConfig 3 are free alternatives to cPanel which both support NginX. ISPConfig actually also supports MyDNS which has a smaller memory footprint than BIND. Virtualmin is probably a more stable solution though (my opinion based on my experience). Although if you're running MechBunny you obviously should not be short on RAM. cPanel is mostly a resource hog on smaller systems and because it only runs on CentOS, which is an even bigger resource hog, but (arguably) more stable and secure than smaller alternatives like Debian.Last edited by AndrewX; 01-16-2013, 02:59 AM.

Yeah that's a pretty good point. I imagine they could be a nightmare to scale depending on how operations were. 300K of basically static pages would be rather simplistic. But I imagine 300,000 30m+ videos would be another story. That't not nessesarily huge. The real bottleneck is disk io on video downloads. If for instance he doesn't host the vids himself and uses embeds or sponsor videos, then a single server should be able to handle that without any problems.

You could setup Nginx on port 8080 (even on cPanel) to handle static files (it's very fast for those) and use it as a front-end proxy for Apache. Try a google search, many people are doing this and I think this would work best for what you are trying to accomplish. It's actually quite easy and works very well.Last edited by AndrewX; 01-16-2013, 03:14 AM.

I've seen nginx crash because of the h264 steaming module, and this also sets everyone's ip to 127.0.0.1 by the time it reaches apache. You could setup Nginx on port 8080 (even on cPanel) to handle static files (it's very fast for those) and use it as a front-end proxy for Apache. You need to set the x-forwarded-header. google for mod_rpaf nginx - I've got multiple articles on how to do it here locally. I've had similar problems on servers using CDNs. About the h264 issue, no idea.Last edited by AndrewX; 01-16-2013, 03:48 AM.

My advice is two servers
Server 1
- just to host the script (application)
- can even use cPanel for easier management
- apache (+ varnish) would do just fine
- maybe a cdn to serve static files (like .js .css and desing elements .jpg .png .gif)
Server 2
- would host all videos (and thumbs)
- no control panel
- would use ngix instead of apacheMake a bank with Chaturbate - the best selling webcam program

Yea, Use an SSH Harddrive and a Telnet video card for best video quality.Your hosting provider should tell you the best setup for your needs but usually the best is:

1 or more servers working in load balancing to host videos
