I read that book and thought it was a nasty piece of work. Well done, but nasty. It didn't exactly give me nightmares, but it was very unsettling.

Single biggest predictor of religiousness is what the parents are. It's probably the same with many other aspects that aren't as obvious.

I think there are a very small number of people who are just born bad. They have mental issues from birth, but I think that is a pretty small number of people. Most people are products of their environment. If you beat and abuse a kid chances are they are going to grow up and do the same. When bad shit happens to you it often causes you to respond in some way or another and normally that response is not a good one. It doesn't mean you will be violent, but you could still be a bad person and not be violent.
