I agree. Actually, I think their suggestions are totally reasonable and very much "middle ground" territory.

I doubt it.. The gun nuts will think any change is taking away their guns and the anti gunners will think any assault style gun is too much.

IMO what they should do as far as the regs go, is simply make any mag over 8 to 10 rounds illegal and punishable by stiff prison sentence (no pre-ban BS either straight up illegal). This would include handgun mags as well.

This way people can still have their toys but they just wont have the high capacity mags. If you can't hit a home intruder with 8 to 10 bullets then you likely shouldn't have the gun in the first place.

Granted it would be really hard to get all the high capacity mags out off the streets but if they could that would be a middle ground solution IMO.

Its not very difficult to covert a normal magazine into a high capacity mag anyway.

I often wonder if those who are creating gun laws and coming up with ideas for them know anything about guns or the people who actually commit violent crimes with them.

Not a single criminal in the entire country is going to give a squirt of piss about any new law passed, and there are already so many weapons on the street - not to mention brought in from Mexico - that banning a certain type could not possibly do any good. This is 100% like the "war on drugs" and we all see how good that is working out.

I don't oppose gun regulation if it helps people sleep better at night, but it simply isn't going to work because criminals and crazy people do not follow the law.

But they can't buy what's not available for sale. More guns = more gun violence. Yes, the nation is already awash in guns (the NRA has done their job very effectively), but requiring background checks on any gun sale, and banning the sale of machine guns and limiting the capacity of the magazines will tighten supply. Over time, there will be fewer assault weapons & less ammo.

It's about harm reduction, it's not an outright solution to a very complex problem.

Yes but most people will abide by the law and in most cases these types of shootings the gun were still legal with no illegal modifications.

You can also buy 100-200 round clips for assault rifles and convert them to be fully automatic, but in most of these shootings the people don't have these items because it's illegal to own them unless you have a much more restrictive permit.

Meaning you lower the clip size that a person can legally own and give strict prison sentences for owning high capacity magazines and most people simply will not have them.

This is a reasonable compromise IMO because people can still have their assault rifles but just not the high capacity magazines. The trick is just getting them off the streets.
