Ah, technically they are not just giving it out for all, it's intended for existing customers who run into activation/reinstallation issues.

I've had CS2 complain more than once that it's been installed on too many computers, was on the phone for hours to Adobe to get that fixed.

So it's not that they're being an awesome company and giving away a 7 year old software product for free... it's just to complicate life for existing paying customers.

How ironic that people with cracked versions will never have any of these activation issues.

i read the thread - they try to keep the cat in the bag - but meanwhile the message has spread too much i guess and i doubt many people will read the updates - they will just use it

I wonder if those serials are master "activate without remote query" keys that have been recognised from day 1 by any version of CS2, or they've done a custom compile for the file they've just put online...

I'm going to download and store a copy along with the new serial just in case.

Adobe is turning off the activation servers for cs2, hence the free giveaway. It's a legit, free copy of CS2.

Just say that you're a student and get the creative cloud. 30/month for 15-20 CS6 products is a great deal if you need it..

Yea know the ironic part of this, is in most cases anyone whom would use the older CS2 likely would never be a paying customer anyway.

IMO Adobe is going about this all wrong. I've been a gamer almost all my life and as a hobby I've messed around doing 3d and working on mods to games from time to time. At one point I started to get into the gaming industry but ended up not doing it.

Over the years I've seen quite a few teens start learning how to do 3d and use photoshop to work on game mods. Some of these guys became quite good and I've seen more than a few of them get hired by game studios.

These are guys that used to make free skins for long gone sites such as CS-Skins.net and various other game modding sites.

Of course these kids didn't have legit versions of photoshop or 3d studio max nor would they ever been able to afford it, just to make things for game mods. Yet still they used pirated software and many eventually became professionals working legitimity with-in the gaming industry. I'd almost be willing to be that the bulk of game artist in that industry started out using pirated software and doing it as a hobby.

Adobe should actually allow and encourage the use of older obsolete versions like this because they have the ability to create future customers by doing so.

It's not like they would be losing many sales by allowing the use of their older versions.

that's where "student" version comes in? or Photoshop Elements? isn't that basically feature limited version of Photoshop and costs like $50?

Na most of these kids when they start aren't of college level when they get started most are jr high school or high school so they wouldn't have access to student versions anyway. Most of these guys already have a very good grasp on the programs well before they hit college where they could gain access to student versions.

It's just like some kids start playing the guitar at a young age, or the piano, painting or drawing, well now days some kids start doing 3d modeling & texture painting with tools like 3dsmax & photoshop. This is why I say Abobe really has nothing to lose and a lot to gain because people can get illegal versions if they want them anyway, so it wouldn't hurt to give legal access to older out dated versions.

I think we pay $50 / month for the cloud version. It includes everything I believe.
I can't see why anyone would even bother pirating it at that price.
If you do decide to used hacked version just remember you are most likely putting all your server details (logins / passwords / domains etc) into a software you got from someone that makes a living out of stealing or time-shift or whatever its called these days.
