Maricopa County sheriff's deputy shot in Peoria

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) ? A Maricopa County sheriff's deputy is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot, and a man sought in that shooting has been found dead.

KTVK-TV reports that the deputy was shot multiple times in a Peoria lot early Tuesday after he encountered a man. The man's former girlfriend had earlier called authorities to voice concern about the man.

Witnesses said they heard shots fired and saw the deputy on the ground in the parking lot.

Peoria police later spotted the man sought in the shooting of the deputy and authorities say the man shot at officers who returned fire.

SWAT team officers ultimately found the man dead in a vehicle. It's not immediately known whether how he was killed.

No identities have been released.

Someone the other day in a thread here on GFY said "If you cop lovers want to know how the wounded officer is doing..." or something to that effect.

I never wished police officers ill will. Ever. Yeah, I ranted a little bit when I got a ticket, but now that I'm older I see why I got tickets - I was a horrible driver. Now I have three friends that are police officers, including the guy across the street who is a highway patrol officer. In the event you need the cops... You want them to come running.

I guess being a full time parent changes everything.

Sounds like a good way for the local pigs to make money off of the criminals. They've been confiscating and selling off cars and houses and what not for ages. Makes sense.

Sounds like a good way for the local pigs to make money off of the criminals. They've been confiscating and selling off cars and houses and what not for ages. Makes sense.

Yep, I called them pigs. I also call them the 5-0, the popo, and I'm sure many other names in my lifetime. I have what's called a sense of humor.

It's pretty simple no matter what I call them. Criminals bad, cops good. When you have problems, you call the cops.

Here in my hometown - which has a low crime rate - they have reduced our police department by nearly half because of budget issues. Three years ago I couldn't run to 7-11 without seeing at least one cop car. Now... I can't remember the last time I saw one. When you are a family man and a homeowner, that's scary. I'm not scared of someone breaking into my house; I'm afraid of being in a car accident and not having the police respond.

Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I've been in a 7-11.

I too have a sense of humor. But when I was younger and hung around with the wrong crowd we always called them pigs and it was meant as a derogatory term and still do to this day.
