tip to save money on cable bill

i have time warner and here is a tip i learned from my friend

i called them and told them i wanted to cancel at end of my billing cycle because it was too expensive and another company offered me a deal i cant refuse

as long as you arent in a contract they offer you a small discount on the phone right there - politely refuse and hang up

wait 1-2 days and they will call you back with a sick offer (from 175 down to 75 per month)

I've been doing this for years, always works well, especially with some free hbo or premier channel offer.

Most people don't know that you are NOT in a contract but actually a commitment for 1,2 or 3 years -- unless you have a business plan. You can cancel at anytime for the most part or have to pay a "disconnection" fee

Years ago - Many years ago - we had a problem with our cable company and had them come out to look at it. Turns out our neighbor had sliced into our cable wires and had been getting free cable.

Yup, this works. We just called our provider (Bell) and told them about a better offer we had from Videotron. Bell cut our price by $22 a month, gave us more free channels, and a $240.00 instant credit for supposed over-charges from last year.

I'm roughly £100 per month for my Sky bill.

That includes TV, Broadband and Phone.

Most people know that if you phone up and say you are gonna cancel, you get offered a few things extra or some money off your bill. However, it seems to be happening quite often now that when people phone up looking for a similar deal, the cable company simply calls their bluff and says "ok, we can disconnect you right now sir. Shall we proceed?"

To which the customer goes "Oh shiiiiiiit!"

I miss my cable connection. 70 euros for 200 chanels, phone and 20mb internet.
I'm now up a mountain so have to pay 50 euros for 5mb ADSL.

I actually recently did this. I was paying around $160 for cable and internet. I was going to switch to one of the dish companies so I called my cable provider and after some conversation they ended up lowering my bill to $100 per month which is what it would have been with the new dish company.

Supposedly this price is only good for a year, but the person I talked to just told me to call back in a year so I'm sure they will continue on as opposed to losing me.

great point but they will still find some way to bend you over when it comes time somehow with some government taxes and surcharges
