Ski neck injury

So some old fart decides to interrupt my fun and takes me out on the slopes yesterday - slammed straight into me from behind and sent me flying. I landed on my back and cracked the back of my head on the hard snow. It didn't seem like a big deal and since I ski hard, I always ski with a back protector and helmet, so thanks to the protection, I didn't feel anything.

This morning though, I couldn't lift my head off the bed without supporting it - the muscle pain from the two muscles either side of the throat was excruciating. I've never had that and still I can't lift my head from lying down without supporting it - went to the doc at the station today who told me it's quite common and not serious. Apparently a reflex action when head injury is likely to occur is to tense all the neck muscles to prevent the head from being loose and this is simply the side effect of strong neck muscle contractions.

Anyone had it? It's a really weird sensation that 99% of the time, no pain but try lifting your head from lying down and you're like a new born baby who can't do anything!

Anyway, another reason for off-piste skiing - at least the out of control fuckwits can't kill you

I managed to fuck my neck up falling on tarmac and landing on my chin a couple of years ago and it wasn't until I went for an xray of my jaw a few weeks later that the nurse twisted my head to get my face in the right place for the camera that I felt something in my neck move and it went back to normal again. Get well soon

Had it happen to me. I was on a snowboard, all alone with a football field of width and nobody in sight. I was in a zone. I see this shadow next to me all of a sudden and then I realize my snowboard is on top of a pair of skis. Next thing I know I am slammed and it was some 16 year old chick that had no idea how to control her skis and she had to be flying. It has taken a year for my neck to be right, but the next day I had that whiplash muscle pain you speak of. Lasted a week or so. I now own a neck roll that I wear.
