No.
In the case of the school shooting in CT, these were legally purchased firearms. If there was a law saying "If you have anyone in the house who has a history of mental illness you cannot legally own firearms" this would have been prevented. A simple law could have prevented the deaths of twenty school children.

They were legally purchased and registered to his mother Not him. He was in possession of them ILLEGALLY.
And no law needed...she SHOULD have had the damn sense to keep her weapons locked up.
No law would have changed what happened. She simply wouldn't have told anyone her son was mentally ill. She would have lied and gotten her gun anyway is what I think.
Laws don't stop anybody from doing what they want...and they certainly wouldn't have stopped this crazy person from doing what he did. He would have just stolen a gun from somebody else and/or found another way to kill. :(
I do agree that his mom not locking her weapons up made it very easy for him to do it.
But I can only assume that those weapons were around the house before this happened. She obviously never saw it coming or even thought for a minute he would hurt her or those children.
You just can't predict what a person who is that crazy will do...and history has shown that you can't even tell HOW crazy some people are (Jeffrey Dahmer for instance...he was described by everyone as a really nice guy, just like most mass murderers)
