    15yr Old Freaks Out...

    http://www.upworthy.com/im-pretty-su...g-o?g=3&c=upw1

A shame it takes the Brits only a few years to get this but in the U.S it will take 10 years... If the FDA even approves it

why would the the FDA need to approve a simple blood test?
    .
Yes, fewer illegal immigrants working equates to more job opportunities for American citizens.

Brits get it in 2 years, the USA 10 years. WTF!

We'll prob have it in Asia in a few months. Not much red tape here for stuff like this.

I can imagine the next 10 years could be a gold mine for some close to the border cancer testing clinics popping up in Mexico, who will also expedite this.

wow, uplifting, only 15. it's what we need to do, the future is in science and hi technology, ever city and town should have a high school for kids with an affinity for maths and sciences, by the time kids are high school age it's evident who they are. an investment that will pay off thousands of times over.

i don't understand the 2 year wait in the UK or the 10 year wait in the US - it's a blood test, what it promises to do may be up for debate/study but there's no reason why people shouldn't be able to have the test done now. if the test shows you have cancer cells at their earliest stage, you go to your doctor, show him the test and now your doctor knows to be on the watch and schedule appropriate tests/scans.

one day they'll be able to pinpoint where those cells are and remove or repair.

FDA needs to approve it so that Monsanto can make sure it doesn't interfere with any of their agendas.

Sadly, in the US, kids like that will become rarer and rarer.

It's a new use found for an existing idea/technique. Don't expect it to be as cheap as they suggest.

there isn't? ask somebody with terminal cancer how much they'd pay to be cured. i'm pretty sure Steve Jobs would have paid every last dollar of his billions for a cure for himself.

Yet it is going to take 10 years for the FDA to approve a 3 cent cancer test. Sometimes you have to look at the reality of the situation, even if it is painful and unpleasant to look at. Think about how many people will die within those 10 years due to not being able to detect the cancer early. It's sad, corrupt, and down right evil.

I have to ask why you assume that just because the OP suggested that time frame; it is reality.

2 years seems to be the standard over-optimistic answer given for when something will be available in the UK so that is a wild guess too. In 2 years time I would expect it to still be 2 years away.

Anything medical disappears down a long set of testing and refinement before it goes anywhere near a human test subject and it was quoted at currently being 90% reliable. No country is going to let mass testing go ahead with a 10% risk of the wrong result - especially with something like cancer.

In a more decent society a doctor could just state that the test is 90% accurate. But we all know the 10% of false negatives would result in massive lawsuits from money grubbing patients trying to say their doctor killed them.

This test will never see the light of day.
