Political correctness

Seems each week we have a new post about one of these taboo words. Why?
Yeah you or someone you know may be a (insert random new bad word). Honestly though does it really matter?

We see these all the time.
Model - whore, skank, slut, or often stupid skanky slut etc.
Homosexual - fag, faggot, cocksucker, ass packer.
Over weight - fat, obese, lard ass, average webmaster (sorry couldnt resist)
Hispanic - spick, mexican, wetback.
Black - ******s, negro, neggar

Im sure you all have plenty more.

I am personally in a wheelchair, now I am personally fond of the word gimp. Primarly because it so easily offends people. Yet if I wanted to go PC I could not even keep up with what I am. I know it was handicapped but that was axed, then dissabled, then some nut job started calling us handicapable or upwardly mobile. What the fuck are those? Why not vertically challenged, opps uses challenged cant have that, it is after all why the stoped using physically challenged.

And if you can not say physically challenged because it uses challenged, then why should we call someone mentally challenged, isnt that hypocritical political correctness? By the way do they issue us memos when what we are has been renamed?

A word can only be as damaging as you allow it to be. Its a fucking word people. Get over your personal sensitivity.

While I'm with you on silly substitutions like "challenged" for "handicapped" or "crippled," or "African American" for "black," a word like "whore" or "skank" has no nonoffensive use as a descripter of a living person.

Unlike "handicapped" or "black," the word "skank" or "slut" can't adequately be defined without noting the fact that they are tems of sheer contempt or disgust.

As a guy who's pretty libertarian himself, I don't think anyone who's baring his ignorance and inner ugliness by using such terminology should be banned, but I see no particular harm in giving such airhead and punks a swift kick in the intellectual nuts.

I think I got what you were saying. I agree that that there is not any well-intentioned way to call a female a "skank" or a "slut" thus they are applied for a reason. "Models" who are female and pose in the nude are not exactly upstanding "ladies" and those that are "Models" for hardcore are "skanks" and "sluts", thus the two words are appropriate.

Nah I dont call others in chairs gimps, hell I ussually can not stand other people in wheelchairs. (another story).

Now one of my tennants in a rental has a "slow, retarded, mentally challenged, feeble minded or whatever we decided was ok to call them" son who is around 32 with the mentality of a 12 year old. Now he always refers to his "co-workers" as retarded people. So I do not get the point.
