Giant whiteboard, best way to make?

I have a massive wall in my office with nothing on it. I want to turn it into a large whiteboard, at least 4' x 6'. I cannot paint the wall, so I'm thinking about buying some sort of material and then painting it with that whiteboard paint.

Any suggestions on what kind of material I can get that would be large and somewhat light, at least light enough to hang on a wall?

I had a friend try the whiteboard paint once and they said it was a pain in the ass.

You can buy the board at any home depot/lowes/whatever. It is usually back by the paneling, comes in regular size 4'x8' panels. No need to paint it up and it is fairly cheap.

I used it for an entire wall in my kid's room years ago and it worked great.

I think this is what I bought http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...1#.UNHwh-TolvA

I did this for my office, very easy to do and much better solution I think than the paint.

So this is the actual board used for creating whiteboards and it does not need to be treated or painted at all?

Pretty much. I am not sure that the coating is as thick but it worked through 10 years of kids with dry erase markers. I also made their LEGO tables with this as the top surface and their train table with it. Real smooth white shiny surface just like a whiteboard.

Idea paint sucks I've done it and it takes at least double their recommendation to make it work right. It doesn't erase as easy as a whiteboard either trust me. I would not do any of that whiteboard stuff. Instead....

get a giant piece of glass and mount it on the wall. Much better IMO and easier to clean.

The high end whiteboards are expensive but the cheap ones are almost as good. The main difference in quality is how easy it is to erase. With whiteboard eraser fluid though everything will come off no problem.

You want to look for the 4'x8' panels of Melamine shower board. They are typically between $12-14 per panel at Lowe's or Home Depot.

I've had entire walls of whiteboard at the last 3 places I've lived. Have someone hold them against the wall while you drill screws through them. Don't worry about finding the studs—normal drywall is enough to hold it up. I use 6 screws per sheet. You can probably get away with just the corners if you want more usable surface but you might have some bending. When you screw it in, make sure it is completely flat against the wall otherwise you will have a slight bending away from the wall.

Stay away from the paint or from those cling on sheets. They are a waste of money.
