    Which means he was before a judge and remains in remand custody. the systems in europe work quite differently from british/us law.

    for Untersuchungshaft (remand custody) the conditions are: there needs to be a high probability of a sentence for the alleged crime.secondly, there needs to be a reason to actually imprison the perp, that can be: danger of flight, danger of conspiracy (influencing witnesses, fucking with evidence), danger of a repetition of the alleged crime.

                          1) They could take your passport and you could easily get out of any country via an unauthorized border crossing.

                          2) You could vanish into the country you're in.

                          3) It is impossible for them to immediately know if you have a 2nd or even a 3rd passport / citizenship. If I had Fabian's money, I would have a few different passports from a few different countries. And considering he was arrested for suspicion of tax evasion, he is exactly the type of person who would have such a thing, and for exactly that reason.

                          Sure, they could probably hunt you down and track your ATM, bank, mobile movements, but if you were in deep shit and needed to go off the grid, you could make it very difficult for them to catch you.

                                                                              Fabian kinda fucked himself on that (as I've been saying all along). He spent the last two years trying to convince everyone that HE somehow was able to get a giant hundred million dollar bank loan to buy out Mansef.

                                                                              The real question for me is if the courts decide to freeze up Manwin's assets.

                                                                              The AEE show & XBiz show is gonna be pretty thin if that happens. Since Manwin helped cripple the biggest porn companies and then "acquired" them for pennies on the dollar...that could really hurt the trade shows in January if assets are frozen at that time.

                                                                              There would be a big chunk of the industry out of the game.

No conspiracy needed really for this. In some euro countries the bail concept do not even exists at all, simply a judge decides if you should be in jail or not during investigations, and that's it. Other main issue: there's free border transit between European Union countries, he could take a car or train for any other Euro country even with no any id (includes boat for malta, cyprus, balearic or canary islands, Madeira) and no one checks him or will report where he gone. The only places he can't go without passport it is USA, Canada and such. It is like if an USA citizen on bail could go in Mexico but not in Brazil, would this be safe enough?
                                                                                                                                                                                          I still think that's just simple Tax (or specifically VAT) issue, solvable with a fine, but being in Germany that's handled this way, which may look a little soviet at USA eyes.
