Bing uses google results as part of their own algo and yahoo is powered by bing. There are some minor differences on how they handle domain age, flash and things like that... but if you optimize properly for one... you already did optimize for the others. :2 cents:

It's sad the amount of bullshit people say... "They're the number one search engine, they owe us traffic!!" Uh, no idiot, they don't owe you shit.

Of course they don't owe anyone anything and neither do we. Just don't go changing the rules and acting like they are some kind of moral authority. do your job and give the people what they want. Stay out of trying to figure out what they want or what they should be searching for.

No, they built their site up to their popularity, nobody helped them, especially any fucking person on GFY... They can make any rules they want, you don't like it, don't index your site in their listings and block Googlebot from viewing your pages. It's that simple.

Google doesn't owe anyone anything, and they can do with their users as they please, just like we all can with our sites.

Play by their rules, or don't play at all.

1. They aren't usually affiliates. Most of them are not giving out 1-3 backlinks to the content owner.
2. They are giving out full scenes instead of promo clips 100,000 other affiliates have.
3. They paid for massive backlinks and do very well on the popularity contest part of the G algorithm.
4. They aren't embedding the content from another site they are hosting it themselves.
5. Because of the full length clips they have a massive time on site metric.
6. They are usually heavily SEO with custom software.
7. Is being flagged as a legitimate content provider by Google rather than an affiliate.

The regular affiliate on the other hand:

1. Is using sponsor clips which 100,000 other webmasters have up.
2. Often is embedding content from the same source as thousands of others.
3. Has all sorts of backlinks to the content owner which are seen as "affiliate links".
4. Does not have massive link popularity and paid backlinks.
5. Has lower time on site due to shorter clips.
6. Is usually using cookie cutter software along with maybe a custom template but is limited in SEO potential by it.
7. Is being flagged as a "porn affiliate" by Google's classification mechanism.

Just my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it.

Tubes - I see many with banners to a program which does give links back to a program. Also, won't a rel="nofollow" take care of that problem for an affiliate?

You're right they did pay for massive backlinks but doesn't that go against Google's wishes? Isn't that what they are trying to weed out? The ability for entities to artificially inflate their popularity?

As for content, many affiliates have their own which may include videos but also images, text (stories etc.) and forums so that the content is unique and something that surfers want that tubes don't necessarily have.

I do agree that they have tons of backlinks and timeonsite stats and in my opinion that's why they rank so high.

I also think that when google does shake things up this much that they don't always know how it's gonna turn out and tweak and tweak some more until many sites (affiliates included) regain their traffic.

There are LOTS of mainstream sites that are hurting too which are not necessarily affiliate sites (read the WM forum).

True .... BUT ... it is still frustrating and nothing wrong with venting.

focus on making the best sites ever :)

Focus on writing for surfers and quality content in general and search engines, including Google will respect your site over the long haul. I do agree focussing on the quick SEO tricks is dumb and will have you chasing your tail. No traffic source is 100% under your control including media buys, ppc etc.

Yeah for sure, people will tweet my new scat movies to their friends.

Some tweets and shares won't get you those high authority links in your niche. You need to put some hard work in it or pay well.

Biggest problem here is that google relies on a lot of manal assesment for link farms, if you can make them with more people than google have on the case, job done. People think too small, and I mean small = teams of 12. You need a few hundred people on the case building sites. Content mangers, project managers, writers, bloggers, content companies, quality assement teams, writers, pseudo journalists and google+ circle bloggers. Go G++ and the love will flow. you really think that some mainstream companies are not spending $50k a month on this shit?

livexxx 05-09-2013 06:43 PM

Oh, and a GA prem account helps (lol) but sites that when you look at them, and I really mean look at them and your links you have , and I hope the href target is only on brand, but you think to yourself, does that look real? or does it look like a splog.

You have to look at those and think, hmmm, that actually is a real site written by a fan , or a site that loves the niche etc. If you don't, a google drone boy will be making the same call.

Fat Panda 05-09-2013 06:50 PM

google keeps sending me more and more traffic everyday. I LOVE GOOGLE!

LOL. not all full time, caveat emptor, but at least requiring a full time HR person

The more affiliates trading traffic the less control google has.
