Photo of hurricane damage and how much Allstate approved to fix it...

Saw this on FB I hope it aint another one of those hoaxes...

The persons quote below

Quote:
HI Everyone, This is my house. We walked in through a HOLE in the front to the entire first floor COMPLETELY gone. We are fully insured. Allstate had just quoted us on the amount we are receiving. $165.38. Notice the RED tag on the door (WE ARE NOT ALLOWED IN) This is not acceptable, and basically a slap in the face. Please re-post this, Share or Whatever everyone does to make this Viral. To make Allstate know what its like to be jerked around, we are hanging the Banner in hopes of some Media Attention. Everyone who was helping from the storm, Just repost this! Thanks!

Allstate fucked my uncle over when he got into a pretty bad accident 8 or 9 years ago. They has to be sued to pay, fyi. ...and it took over 4 years to get fully reimbursed

How is the insurance company supposed to make profit if they actually paid money back? ;)

Sadly, very true.

Years ago I had some damage to my DSLR cam and put in an insurance claim (the first and only claim we'd ever made on our policy) - and our insurance company told me to get 3 repair quotes. We did - and they accepted the lowest quote ($1,100) - and paid us within a week of the repairs - no questions asked. We were very much impressed and appreciative at the way they handled everything at the time.

And then I see stuff like this with AllState - dealing with people's homes and lives...issues much more vital and important than a simple camera repair - and wonder about the total inequality and disparity.

What kind of coverage did the homeowners have? There's water damage from rain which is different from moving water which is different from storm damage, which is different from ……. Unless you really know what you are looking for and have someone qualified to oversee what you are buying you can overlook what you are actually paying for.

If the coverage was for everything the policy would be one paragraph. It's page after page because of what is NOT covered.

Bingo; without knowing their coverage an "Act of God" can screw them. I remember representing a client that was fighting a defendant from New York. The NY attorney had very weird (aka liberal) ideas of what fell under "Acts of God" that would never even be put forth in a CA court. I got the impression that NY had a more extended interpretation than we did.

Naturally, since it was a CA case, not a NY case, we went by CA law and we won.

Would need to see his policy.

Maybe the homeowner was like many people who say NO to every additional coverage and only want the cheapest and most basic protection.

And when they need to claim on the insurance and they aren't protected for everything under the sun........cry about how they were mis-sold, didn't know or weren't told.

Not trying to defend insurance companies, but they do tend to cover their butts when they send your insurance documents out.

That's what I'm thinking. They thought they had "full insurance" but most likely went for the cheapest policy which only protected them from fire or something.

I know I don't have flood insurance myself, but it never floods here.

I have Farmers. I did make a small claim a few years back when my wife rammed her SUV through the garage door. They came out the next day and cut me a check on the spot, and the day after that it was repaired.

People did not have any flood insurance and storm insurance doesn't cover flood damage unless you also have flood insurance.

After losing my house and everything I owned due to a fire.. I had USAA and it was an awesome experience and they were very helpful in giving us money. I have learned a fe valuable lessons in insurance and the difference between what a few types of policies actually mean/stand for.

Do your research and don't skimp out of insurance.

that sucks. I have All-State on my apt. I love about a block from the beach in Brooklyn and got hit pretty hard. My building is still running on generators today and its been over a month. I got a lot more money then this just for losing food, not being able to stay in my apartment for 2 weeks, and having to buy things. Did these people have insurance for the stuff inside the house, or just the outside frame....A lot of people don't have flood insurance. These people can also get a lot of money from FEMA.

Most insurance will cover fire as a standard, but not flood.

You just about have to get a lawyer when it comes to insurance companies and getting a proper claim payout after a big storm like that.

I can tell you a few years back after a hurricane in FL, my grandparents lived in one of those popular FL retirement trailer parks that you see all over the state there.

Their place had roof damage and water leaked in between the walls and the insurance company took so long to do anything that mold was growing pretty badly.

They ended up with a new replacement trailer, after a quick letter to a state Senator & a basic letter from their attorney.

Insurance payouts are very much a negation. They will always try to low-ball and you have to push back with counter offers til you get what you think you should or simply get a lawyer involved and know where to put the pressure on them. If it's big storm related there is almost always some sort of insurance fraud contact with the state govt.

They will take advantage of the people that wont fight back.

I had a large barn with a machine shed next to it. We had an unusually large snowfall. The machine shed collapsed. We had coverage on all the buildings. Insurance Co refused to pay as snowfall was act of god. We filed a suit against them since the policy covered wind, stating the wind blew the snow on to the machine shed off the barn, and we won.

Insurance companies are a business, just like any other, that care only about profits. It still makes me angry every time I pay my car insurance bill to know that I'm forced to do so.

Bottom line, if your insurance doesn't cover the damages for wind or water, then light a match! Get back all that money you were forced to pay on your cars for all those years.

I consider myself to be an honest and generous guy, but when it comes to insurance companies and banks that all changes.

Insurance companies are in business to take your money and not pay you when you need it.

It's sad, but it's the business model.

Why are the homes around it fine? Looks like permits are posted like it's a reno more than anything else.

Not saying it's not real or an insurance company won't do that but am suspicious about it being Sandy related and not something else.

What law school did you attend? There is a legal definition of an Act of God and that is what courts will go by.
