    Americans, do you wear your shoes inside?

    Can anyone please give me a logical explanation to why some Americans wear their shoes inside?

    "Hey! I've been walking around in my sweaty shoes all day, stepping in mud, dogshit, spit, puke, gum and other things but it doesn't matter because I will walk into my home, walk on the carpets and put my nasty ass shoes up on the table....".

    Seriously, why do some of you wear your shoes inside? Dont you have to vacuum and clean the floors every other day?

      I never wear my outside shoes past the entrance foyer. But I grew up in Hawaii where no one did.

              I wear mine inside sometimes cause I'm too lazy to take them off. I have no carpet though all hardwood floors, don't even own a vacuum.

                      I wear my shoes inside. Ain't no carpet. Wood and tiles. Sweep and mop daily and you aight. Nobody puts their feet on my table... with or without shoes, we'd have a problem.

                                          I think that the majority of Americans wear shoes or sneakers indoors. Of course growing up in the Northeast where there is snow or slush and mud in the winter, we would change boots or shoes at the door. But not in the other seasons. Now in South FL where the ground is mostly clean and I have terrazo floors I never take my shoes off. My house cleaner comes every week and cleans up real good. I would never have carpet again in any house I live in.

                                                                              Funny you ask this because I had never really thought about it. Living in the Midwest as I do, I have always changed from my outside shoes to my "inside shoes" before I start tramping around the house. The Midwest is normally a desert or a swamp so outside conditions tend to crud up one's shoes and the floors if one wears the outside shoes inside.

                                                                              I have a rack for the outside shoes near the door.

                                                                                      We agree there, too. Unless people ask me to, I don't presume to know their preference. They might think that feet outside of shoes are dirtier, for example. If I know I'm going to be somewhere else for an extended time (hotel, someone's house), I bring "house shoes" that never see the outside.

                                                                                                                              I actually regularly got weird looks when I asked people to take off their shoes when they entered my place. I assume people wear socks on their feet so why should you walk with shoes on inside a house? No one does that here in Sweden or actually any other place I've ever been. This ofc not counting public inside places, restaurants etc where you ofc wear your shoes.

                                                                                                                                                                      Where I'm from in the mid west, I see a lot of different things. I think a lot of it depends on the house/home/apartment or whatever you're going into. If you come to my place with all wood floors and a bunch of party animals...you don't have to take your dam shoes off (unless it's a slushy nasty mess outside and you're gonna make a mess. If you walk into a nice house with carpet all over that's another story. I think here in the USA it's not a black and white thing like some of you guys have it wherever you are. It's more of a common sense thing.

                                                                                                                                                                                                  Walking around in socks or even bare feet on terrazzo, tile or polished wood floors is very dangerous due to the likelihood of slipping and falling. Not to mention it's slow and awkward. I bounce up and down out of my chair and move from room to room at a rapid speed all day long in between sitting at my computer desk and other activities.

                                                                                                                                                                                                  I also personally think that the wearing of loose shoes to go about one's day that one cannot move around quickly in and turn corners on a dime like slippers, flip flops or untied sneakers is a sign or at least a symptom of laziness and sloth. Have you ever seen the footgear popularly worn by ghetto people and welfare recipients in the grocery store? They're almost always falling off their feet as they shuffle around at a snail's pace. Maybe this is just my personal hangup but I like to tie my sneakers or shoelaces tight so I can move with a quickness.
