The monkey who did this to him was caught and will now enjoy a life sentence of 3 meals a day, socializing and working out on the taxpayers dime. Horrible all around.
That dude didn't deserve to die, but he provoked what happened to him. He was trying to be a hero, ended up needing a hero. When a crazy dude tells you to leave him alone, leave him be.

“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
They only show the argument, im looking for it too
If I'm not mistaken, the guy who was killed is not the guy in the video confrontation. That was the attacker and another person a short time before things went down.

The most interesting question is, how much did the photographer sell the photo to the NY Post for? Assuming that he was freelance, that should have been a nice payday.
They should have cut away areas under the subway ledges so people can get into them should they fall into the tracks and can't get out quickly. Looks like there is no way out otherwise unless you can pull yourself up fast enough.

2min26 there is lots of gaps in the wall he could have walked out on the other side of the track.

There actually are cutaway areas there, but there is some type of metal shoe attached to the train that slices through it, so as soon as that hits you you're done anyways. If I'm not mistaken there are tracks on the other side he could have jumped to as long as he avoided the third rail. Dude was drunk and dazed though...
There's tight crawl space under the platform or you can lay flat in the middle of the track and the train will go over you without hitting you. Most people just don't know.

The first time I met my wife's parents was in the restaurant in the CN Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world. They're from Mexico, and don't speak English. I didn't speak Spanish at the time. So there we are, sitting in a fancy restaurant, can't say anything to each other, and my future wife is late. Really late. Then a waiter comes to the table, says the police called and that she'd be late. They needed to keep her for questioning.
Turns out she saw a girl jump down on the subway tracks, get on all fours like a dog and take it in the face.
The police actually drove her to dinner, and even escorted her all the way to our table and apologized for her being late, etc.. (eye opening for people from Mexico, where the police rob you and nobody respects them at all)..
Anyway, she still ordered a steak... Marriage was just a triviality after that.

Damn, she sees someone get smashed by a subway car then sits down to a steak dinner.
Read about this and saw picture in paper the other day, shocking image.
8 years ago my dad was pushed off a platform in front of a train just starting to pull out of the station. Person who pushed got convicted of murder. Can always remember the evidence of train driver in court "it was not my duty to look out of the window". If he did he might have been able to stop. Police were only concerned with prosecuting the pusher, maybe train driver being a local judge had something to do with that. It was all caught on cctv.
You'd have less than 30 seconds to even react and you'd end up dying as well
less than 30 seconds is a lot of time, I think it was more like less than 5-10 seconds or something like that.
And you can try saving by pulling him up, not necessary by jumping in
Of course its difficult to say - we just assume how much time there was..
