If I thought a Transformer Prime 700 would make me look cool, I would have bought that instead. I was considering buying the Kindle HD, but you know... it just didn't seem flashy enough for me. I can only own the most expensive devices, because I'm just that shallow. I love wasting money, because I have so much of it. :1orglaugh Someone's a bit overly emotional about this, don't you think? The 4th generation iPad gets top ratings amongst modern tablets. http://www.slashgear.com/ipad-review...peed-30254851/ http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/30/apple-ipad-review/ Here's some reviews that say it's pretty much top notch. Let's see the reviews that say the contrary. Oh and let's talk about "nobody disputing this". The iPad is the #1 selling tablet in the world. How do you think that happened, if the iPad is the super-old-tech shit-sucking device you claim it is? Android devices use what's known as a Hardware Abstraction Layer that essentially acts as a mediator between the JavaScript OS and the instructions issued directly to the hardware. The reason Android devices need to bump up the CPU specifications and require more memory is because there is WAY more overhead occurring with the Android OS. That's the reason you see so much stutter when you flick a page back and forth with an Android device... Nobody disputes that. :thumbsup Speaking of stuttering... I took the liberty of doing a quick YouTube search for you, simply searching for "Android Stutter". I'll ruin the ending for you... so you won't have to watch it: Like: * Screen Size * S Pen - Notetaking * Battery Life * The Fastest Android Phone I've used * Media looks great * Games look great and play well Didn't Like: * Buckled under heavy processing * Typical Android Stuttering did crop up * Screen wasn't as sharp as I would have liked (text) * Text flashing during transitions, animations (like while scrolling) * Photos and video weren't as true to life as I would have hoped Bottom Line: * If you don't mind the caveats, It's a Recommended Device * Compare only to SIII * Compare with iPhone? Two different galaxies, literally So, here's the summary: iOS is a LOW LEVEL OS. It interfaces directly with hardware components giving you a robust smooth user experience that does not require mega specs in order to give you a great experience. Android is a HIGH LEVEL OS requiring a Hardware Abstraction Layer (because Google does NOT manufacture hardware, they need to provide an OS that can function on many types of hardware). It is a Java OS. JAVA.net Article: Android = JAVA |
This article goes into a bit more detail regarding the technical challenges Android presents to hardware manufacturers, and why it takes so long to receive an update to the latest Android flavor:

Waiting till next year for some better tablets but just ordered two Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 as xmas gifts for my parents. Although not very powerful, it should be good enough for their needs and is probably still more useful to them than most of the toys on the market.

If you are questioning it then dont get it. I just went through the same thing recently. I was hemming and hauning over whether or not to get the new ipad that just came out. I took the plunge, at the end of the day wound up spending close to 600d ollarsfor the ipad 16GB and sleeve/case. It literally sat on my night stand more often that not. I would have to force myself to put my phone down in order to utilize this thing that my phone could do anyway. Needless to say I returned it and havent missed it one bit.

When you get a chance, put the Transformer Prime TF700t (the most premium Android tablet currently on the market... with the Tegra 3 quad-core processor) next to the iPad 4 and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. My friends who own those tablets didn't even realize their devices had this issue that is painfully obvious when the devices are sitting next to eachother. http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/25/a...-tf700-review/ And then, of course, there's the build quality... |
I've had an ipad since they were first released, at first i got tons of usage, now i've got a samsung s3 phone and I use that for everything as the screen is generally big enough and it is always with me, only time I use the pad is on trips, its perfect for carrying around, grabbing your emails on the move etc, so if you're on the move alot then yeah!
