Yeah, that's something that I hear about all the Presidents...they miss being able to drive their own car.
I don't even think they are allowed to have a personal cell phone.

You're right - I guess when you don't have to for years, it may feel good to get back to the basics.
He probably should have pumped his own gas during the campaign - it would have gotten him an extra point maybe.Comment

I was thinking about this earlier today - it stuns me that the Republican party put up a candidate who left office with a 34% approval rating as governor.
Now we have people bitching that our "country is divided". Hello? Our country has always been divided with nearly half of us Republican and Half of us Democrats, and the rest of us stuck someplace in the middle or otherwise not caring.
Us Americans are spoiled rotten. We have air conditioning and 24 hour cable television and Al Gore's Internet; I can hop in my truck and drive all the way across country without having to ever show my "papers". Our government has zero impact on our daily life. We have unlimited opportunity here in the US and yet all we do is bitch...Herschel Savage

You would think it would be a good long term strategy to win the WHite House by having as many "home" states as possible -- in Mitt Romney's case its three. He lost all three states because he doesn't even get any love in places he's governed or lived.
Paul Ryan either, for that matter.

What country do the citizens have to show their "papers" to travel in? The Middle East maybe. I don't think anybody in England, or Spain, or Italy or France show their "papers".
I drove all over St. hahahahahaha (back and forth between the Dutch and French sides) and didn't show any "papers".
As for the govt. having "zero impact"...Just flew to Austin Texas and back. Was physically searched at both Las Vegas airport and Austin airport. And no...I don't think they thought that Claudia Marie and I were "terrorists" with bombs. They are looking for drugs and couldn't ever do this kind of search on people until the fear of "terrorists" made it possible.
I don't like being searched like a criminal. I know it means nothing to you. But it means something to me. The govt. should have NO rights to be searching us without a warrant. Yet, the Supreme Court ruled that traffic cops can now search our cars AND your person if they have "reasonable suspicions" (another loss of our constitutional rights in the name of the "war on drugs")
Also...tell all the citizens of the U.S. who are in prisons that the govt. has "no impact on their lives"
The United States is NUMBER ONE for incarcerating it's own people.
When I was a kid in school we were told of the horrible Soviet Union and how they imprisoned their people and sent them to Siberia.
Guess what? We have more of our own citizens in prison than China, Cuba, North Korea, or ANYBODY else.
We have become what I was being taught in school was the very thing we fought against.
But like you said...we all have air conditioning and cable t.v. and the internet, etc.

Living in a developing country I can lay testament to Americans having it easy and being spoiled. Even poor Americans don't know what real hardship is. Yea, life can be rough, but compared to many places in the world, they have it made.
My GF came from a small farming village who only got electricity 15 years ago. Wrap your head around that. When she sees me bitching and moaning because the internet is slow she laughs at me and calls me an American baby.
Regarding driving cross country without your papers, enjoy that while it lasts. That will be coming to an end soon. TSA will be adding a lot of State to State check-points in the near future. My friend who is in the National Guard said they are already training to assist them, so it will be coming fairly soon to some areas. You'll pull up to a check point and have the TSA and the National Guard standing there with weapons asking for your ID. They already have them within the 100 mile mark from the boarders in many areas, but it will be a sad day for the USA when they are all over the place.Comment

In your efforts to support Obama at every opportunity you get, you didn't even read what was said or what the thread was about. It's a picture of Romney out in regular everyday life filling up his gas tank, and you blame him for being in the spotlight? Great article about how things get different so quickly after someone loses an election like that:
At some point, early Wednesday morning, when Gov. Mitt Romney and family were tucked into bed, a quiet call went out on the radio channel used by his Secret Service agents: "Javelin, Jockey details, all posts, discontinue."

That's my point - your naming all "good" countries. Go the Middle East and in some questions you can arrested for being clean shaving or your girlfriend wearing a mini skirt.
I have a sister in law from Cuba. The stories she tells me scare the piss out of me.
I woke up this morning, went for a run, went to the bank to deposit come checks, went online and started work, took my kid to a friend's house, bought myself lunch at Subway.... The government didn't stop me, ask me questions, come to my house. They never do.
Ever.
Where were you on 9/11?Just flew to Austin Texas and back. Was physically searched at both Las Vegas airport and Austin airport. And no...I don't think they thought that Claudia Marie and I were "terrorists" with bombs. They are looking for drugs and couldn't ever do this kind of search on people until the fear of "terrorists" made it possible.
You know your not a terrorist, but no one else knows that. Thus, you will be searched. Is that really fucking high of a price to pay to know that you flying safely on a plane?
Do you really object that much to being searched to get on a plane? Every fucking country in the world does it.
I don't like being searched like a criminal. I know it means nothing to you. But it means something to me. The govt. should have NO rights to be searching us without a warrant. Yep. Do something stupid, go to prison. It keeps my streets safe at night. I'm okay with that really. Because I don't live in fear the police suddenly bashing down my door and searching my house without a warrant and arresting me for something I haven't done.

This is what I'm talking about. We take everything for granted here. We have remote control AC units that we can turn on from our cell phone to make sure it's perfect when we get home, mean while people in Africa are still fucking starving, have a more than 50% HIV infection rate, and no government health services at all.

I've had to show my passport a few times to police and military traveling on land across Colombia, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Cuba, and Venezuela. Probably a few others but I'm tired and my brain has shut off. There are a decent amount of countries who have road checks here and there.
But in first world countries, besides the 100 mile border checks in the USA, I'm not aware of any.Comment

I said specifically that we are numbed down and dumbed down by having ac, cellphones, etc. This is what I'm talking about. We take everything for granted here. And as I also said...maybe you don't care that you are being searched just so you can ride a glorified bus with wings...but it matters to me. It's treating us like we are criminals. They aren't searching for bombs and trying to make us safe. They are trying to do drug busts plain and simple.
I don't think the TSA has ever found any bombs. Just lots of joints.
It's bullshit. And if you are happy with that then good for you. I'm not. I believe in having freedom.
Back in the 1960's and 1970's and 1980's planes were actually getting hijacked and blown up in mid-air.
But we didn't get searched at airports.
And the day they put the locked steel doors on the pilots cabin on airplanes was the last time that any bunch of guys with box cutters would ever be able to do a 9-11 style takeover of an airplane again.
And no...I don't feel any "safer" when I fly because some TSA agent played with my dick at security. I think it's against everything our country stands for. And the terrorists have "won" when we are subjected to it.
That's just my opinion.-Robbie

Exactly.
After twenty years of hi-jacking they finally figured out how to stop it. Every country in the world searches people when getting on an airplane. It's common sense, but clearly you don't see that.
What in the world is in your past history that are you searched so much?
What more freedom do you want? Not to be searched on airplanes? Good luck finding a place that doesn't search you when you get on an airplane.
I'm happy. I wake up in the morning, I go for my run, I drive around in my car or my truck, do what I need to do, work, enjoy time with my family, and no one from the government hassles me. No one comes to my house to hassle me, no one tells me I cannot do something I want to do to...
What freedom do you want Robbie?Herschel Savage

I think it's more about conditioning than it is stopping real terrorism. They are boiling frogs. Fast forward 10, 15, or 20 years years and imagine what it's going to be like as society deteriorates or the numbers living in poverty grow beyond control. The kind of changes they are going to be needed to deal with that can't happen over night. They need to be slowly worked into the system so people are used to them. Before you know it, you're fucked. Look at what has happened since 2001. Everything has changed. Heaven help us all of another attack on US soil happens.I said specifically that we are numbed down and dumbed down by having ac, cellphones, etc.

The irony is, it is all terrorism that the USA created in the first place. Every drone or soldier that kills a child, a brother, mother, son, or daughter, possibly creates a new terrorist. I know if some fuck in another country killed my child or family, I would dedicate the rest of my life to destroying them. Like the USA did over 9-11.Comment
