I have found that pricing at restaurants usually has something to do with the COLA of the area, but rent is the biggest factor.

The caprese was $7.00; the humus was $8.50

i have a habit of doing that sometimes. all i know is when i go out to eat at a chain type family restaurant, its way too much food but if i go to some tendy joint downtown its much smaller healthier foods (typically) for more money.

they should introduce health tax...you would pay progressively less the less body fat % you have...obese people are practically invalids...if they dont give 2 fucks about themselves neither should society...it would be a cruel but good thing...homo sapiens will become a fat lazy fuck if the wellfare is big enough and the beer is cheap enough...its an age old problem...2000bc ancient scrolls write how the youth of that day only like beer and no work...

p.s. genetics don't mean shit... with the first law of thermodynamics in mind let me point out that if you spend 2000 calories but eat 1500 you will get thinner...

The problem with that is most of the fatass lazy people in the USA seem to be the ones who go out and protest the most (Besides hippies..), and would end up demanding 'equal rights' for fat people. Then the media will get involved and cause much more problems... :disgust

I eat like that, but I'm in shape because I'm constantly doing something active. I even do a lot of my programming at a park, either in a tree or up on this observation deck, since it's more fun than being at home. ;)

Having come back to the States after so many years in Europe, what I have noticed is how it is nearly impossible to get a normal sized candy bar or a small single serving bag of chips. Everything is some 'now with more' or jumbo size.

Ya but people don't have to eat it all. Its the same as food when ordered at a restaurant. Eat half and take the rest home.

blackmonsters 11-19-2012 02:41 PM

"Why Americans are overweight?"

Because the war on drugs has lessen the available supplies of crack and meth.

^ All a matter of choice. becoming obese or overweight doesn't happen over night.

Of course they don't and they don't have to buy it either. I simply make the choice not to buy it and avoid the temptation. However, most people reach for what they see, open and consume.

And fat pets...its such a shame. I consider it indirect child abuse...disgusts me to see parents giving their kids bottles of juice/soda instead of water or milk.

Sarah_Jayne 11-19-2012 02:47 PM

I really like that California has calorie counts on just about everything at fast food or chain restaurants. I mentioned that to friends when I moved here and most of them hadn't even noticed it. For me, it is a really good mental trainer. I have trouble mentally justifying something that is over X amount of calories when I have worked so hard over the years to drop weight. I am sure most people that go to Starbucks, for example, have no real idea of the calorie count in the frappe or any of those sliced cakes. I can't even eat anything at most chain restaurants because the calorie counts on even their most basic dishes are often nearly my entire daily allowance. I wonder how many people pic up those nutritional guides that are on tables and actually read them.

Choopa Phil 11-19-2012 03:01 PM

This is why the US is fat, because we need to be spoon fed everything. Its why we live in a police state as it is. Without the govt to tell us whats good and bad for us we cant even figure it out for ourselves and it really is sad. Educate yourself for about an hour on nutrition youd be surprised on how much u can learn just from reading some basic caloric information about what you eat on a daily basis.

V_RocKs 11-19-2012 03:07 PM

V_RocKs 11-19-2012 03:10 PM

Apple and fat don't go together. Nobody fat uses apple products. We aren't cool enough and spend all of our money on food.

I had a quick look on mcdonalds.com.au and came up with this...

small fries, AU: 72g
small fries, USA: 72g (identical)

large fries, AU: 128g
large fries, USA: 153g (+19%)

large coke, AU: 589mL
large coke, USA: 946mL (+60%)

Not sure whether regular is small or medium, but both AU sizes are smaller than 16 oz.

This is pure serving size of course, doesn't take into account nutritional variation.

Its not cheaper, Sly posted his 20$/week diet plan which was pretty good. So 3$/day - you can not eat days worth of food in mcd for 3 bucks.
Fast food is not cheaper, its just that people are lazy to cook.

By the way nobody mentioned all crappy stuff (sometimes without regulations or requirement to mention it on the label) that is put in food by monsanto and similar corporations.

Not sure if serious question. Its harder to stay in shape when you are older compared to when you are younger.

You well know it does not work like that. Not many people have the discipline. If they get bigger portion of chips they will eat more, because they already have that in hands.

Same here. If there is free refill people will refill even if they are not thirsty anymore. Its free so why not take it.

Yup, I don't exercise and I'll eat McDonalds or whatever else I'm in the mood for but don't gain weight because I'm constantly active during the day. I don't like to spend my time worrying about what I should or shouldn't eat when I can just enjoy my life and stay at a healthy weight just by doing my usual daily routine.

Honestly, I don't even know where you would buy it here. None of the bottle shops stock them that I can think of.

Complacency.

War is always somewhere else. There's nothing to be lean for, apart from lifestyle choice.
