Renee naked in Polynesian paradise (pics)

I shot this set with Renee Perez a couple of years ago and it still remains one of my favourites. The locations is a remote atoll in French Polynesia which is pretty much in the centre of the South Pacific Ocean. I really like getting away from the crowds and this place really fits the bill. 20km from the next nearest neighbour, 50km from the nearest settlement and over 6000km from the nearest continent.

I'm not really sure how to answer that. You might be reading more into it than is necessary. I don't really think of it as "designing" the shot in my head. The individual shots take 2 seconds to shoot. Not much thinking involved. However the set up of a set may take anywhere up to an hour to think through and prepare, particularly if it's an indoor set possibly with an outdoor background and multiple areas to light. If it's a sunset then you just gotta bang it out before you lose the conditions or else anticipate the lighting set up in advance. If you factor in the location then I suppose I am designing the set way in advance because that takes months to research, book and prepare for.

I didn't say it was "the most" remote landmass in the world. Bouvet Island is the most remote because there are no other islands around it. This place in Polynesia has tons of other islands and atolls within a 500km radius around it, but it is more than twice as far from a continent as Bouvent Island.

Interesting that people seem to like the last picture the best. It almost didn't make the cut! I was a little annoyed that I was standing partially in front of the flash and blocked the light off her face. Maybe a happy accident? Not sure if it makes the picture better or worse. I would agree though that all other elements of it are great.

Yes, as I thought - you are synthesizing complex factors easily and intuitively. You create what appear to be, as you say above, 2 seconds of time, when in reality each is a result of lengthening bars of preparation extending back from that instance to months before.

Water does present some amazing possibilities for photography. The way it reflects light and looks under certain lighting conditions can be fascinating at times. Maybe I'll post some of my favourite water shots in the upcoming days.

Well thanks for the compliment. In all fairness this is a cherry picked selection as you are seeing the best shots of a much larger gallery which in turn come from one of my best galleries. I also take some pretty awful shots as well.

There are some other photographers here, such as Dean Capture, who do things that I do not and/or cannot emulate. There's still much I could learn. I have the simultaneous disadvantage and advantage of being self taught instead of being professionally trained. The possible advantage being that it allowed me to develop my own photographic style without being pigeonholed into the accepted norms of professional photography.
