50 .xxx failures

xXXtesy10 11-12-2012 12:49 AM

This shit is getting expensive. Hope this search.xxx starts kicking in soon as promised.

Freaky_Akula 11-18-2012 05:50 AM

I did not fall for that scam.

GARY LEE 11-18-2012 06:09 AM

Over the years sometimes in business I have screwed up and did the wrong things. On the .xxx I did precisely the right thing and I didn't buy a single one. Decisions like that when the whole thing is going down are tough and quite frequently is where businessmen do screw up.
After the fact is when things get easier when we all are a little more educated as to what is happening.
To the people who are buying now, after we are wiser to the scam that it was, I can give you my paypal account so you can throw your money away into it.
Everyone of you can take your .xxx money and instead make a deposit into my paypal account. If I ever win the powerball lotto someday I will multiply your initial investment by 1000 and send you your check.
I did forget to tell you one thing. I live in California and we have no powerball here. The only time I buy one of those tickets is once in awhile when I am visiting a state that has it. I still consider that a good investment for one of you .xxx people since I gave you more info as well as truthfull info which is more than Stuart Lawley did for any of us.

The Duck 11-18-2012 06:21 AM

Don't have a single one myself.

Fabien 11-18-2012 08:33 AM

Never bought one and i predict a 75% drop but these fucks almost made it !

Si 11-18-2012 08:39 AM

Edit: Quoted far too many people and it created a wall of text.

Not very surprising.

Anyway, I think most of the people who didn't bother buying were sensible and could see the scammynes (is that a word? lol) of the whole thing.

Asking $90 for any domain name per year is far too expensive.

Failed 11-18-2012 08:54 AM

I was only going to renew my .xxx domains if they paid for themselves during the course of the year. They did so and then some. I'm still developing all but one that I plan on selling.

I'm not sure how something can be a failure if it's profitable.

i will renew mine

I don't think you got the point, you could have done the same on a $5 / year .info domain unless you have a very high type-in count

By the way they sent out this:

-------
Dear Sponsored Community Member,

The ICM Registry team would like to thank you for helping make .XXX a global success within its first year of operation.

As you are keenly aware, one of the biggest drivers of success for any website is the amount of traffic it receives. We learned from our Sponsored Community that recent updates to mainstream search engines caused adult content promotion to become more challenging. On September 27th of this year, ICM responded to this challenge by fulfilling on our promise to provide .XXX websites a ?porn-only? search engine.

We have promoted Search.xxx around the globe in mainstream news publications as well as online adult blogs and services. Since the launch of Search.xxx, there have been over 12 million page views, which in turn have generated millions of clicks to developed .XXX websites. Because of webmasters like you, consumers searching for adult content are able to find quality images and videos that match their interest, as well as view this desired content on a TLD dedicated to a safe and discreet method of doing so.

With the recent success of Search.xxx, there is an increased desire within the .XXX Sponsored Community for premium placement on search results. We are responding to this by launching a Search.xxx Ad Platform in early 2013. Once launched, you will be able to buy prime ad placements that will link directly to your developed .XXX adult content websites.

As a part of our appreciation for your continued support, we are giving $75 in ad credits for each .XXX domain that you own as of January 31st, 2013. For each .XXX domain name that you have registered or renewed by January 31, 2013, your ad credits will appear in your Sponsored Membership account. When we launch our program in 2013, you can apply your ad credits to any of the developed .XXX websites that you have in your membership account. To find out more about this promotional offer, check out the information at http://icmregistry.com/adplatform.

We believe that our search initiatives add value to our Sponsored Community. In addition to these initiatives, we have also applied for three new gTLDs with ICANN; .Sex, .Porn, and .Adult. If we are awarded any of these extensions, we will automatically reserve your matching .XXX domain names in these new extensions for you at no additional cost. You, and only you, will have rights to the names. Within the next year we hope to secure these new gTLDs so that we can protect your brands in those new TLDs or alternatively, so that we can provide you with even more market reach if you choose to use those TLDs to promote your websites. To find out more about our gTLD applications and unique ?grandfathering? program for existing .XXX domain holders, check out the information at http://www.icmregistry.com/grandfathering.

We will continue to create and offer new and exciting services that benefit our Sponsored Community and we look forward to working with you to continue to bring your .XXX sites to the world in a safe and responsible way.

Sincerely,

The ICM Registry Team

lol, how is a domain ending in .xxx discreet?

BTW don't be fooled by "we will automatically reserve your matching .XXX domain names in these new extensions for you at no additional cost."

You still have to buy the actual domain

That's a valid argument and I can certainly respect your opinion.

The domains I was able to grab are all great names and short. After my hopes of ranking for EMDs and type-ins, I would almost consider them to be a vanity purchase. I like how they look. I see more important issues that plague this industry than optional domain purchases.

I assume you built your traffic yourself, with backlinks, seo, and what not.
I just think that if you made the same effort on any other (much cheaper) domain extension you would probably see the same result.

I agree this industry has multiple issues, I just don't dig the whole ICM registry thing and their false promises.
