I thought Obama said he only supports medical marijuana? They can pass the law but the DEA still rules supreme.

I don't smoke pot or do drugs in any shape or form. However, I fail to understand why pot isn't legal. We allow people to drink and we allow people to smoke cigarettes. We might as well allow them to smoke pot - tax it and less money spent on prisons.

Easy.

BTW I am jealous.

Shit makes me paranoid that the cops are going to bust down the door. If they couldn't I would not be paranoid.

I am so much more creative when high. I also get into a hyper focused zone.

And most importantly I probably wouldn't need dangerous pain meds.

Weed should be handled and regulated just like wine.

Both come from plants and w/ a little care have similar side effects, some good some bad. Some medicinal some recreational.

Crystal Meth? Heroin? Other addictive drugs? There were no ill effects from crack in society? Cities full of addicts? Doesn't affect everyone?

As has always been said... "you're rights stop, when someone else's begins". Now my businesses and cars gets broken into because everyone has the right to be a meth or heroin addict, doing anything to support their habits. Now my taxes go up to deal with the problems. My insurance goes up. Costs of health care go up. Everyone has the right to spread deadly disease with needles. More people in prison. etc etc etc.

I think most people could agree that meth and heroin should not be legal. There's an obvious difference between the effects of those drugs vs marijuana.

Actually no... stop to think about it a second.

First, gang related violence, cartels, etc... these would all go away if they have no product to sell. They're not about drugs, they're about money. The black market drives prices higher than anything else so the profit margin is huge. These high prices also cause users/addicts to have to start stealing, mugging, etc... in order to afford their next fix.

If you legalize all drugs then you evaporate the illegal drug market. Most ODs happen because of an inconsistency in product. An addict is used to shooting a certain amount but if the potency of that substance is suddenly increased from their norm -> overdose. By controlling the quality of the product you reduce the amount of ODs. You can then also provide clean needles to people to reduce the spread of disease.

So your taxes would actually go down. In fact, by taxing the drugs themselves you could put them to good use by creating clinics to actually treat addiction better rather than punishing people by sending them to prison (which only increases the habit).

If you need some proof, take a look at Portugal. They decriminalized every drug (although legalization would have been better). Since then, their drug addiction rate has been cut by 50%.

That was my point. "what people put into their bodies" can have far reaching effects on everyone else. I don't think marijuana should be illegal. I don't think Meth should be legal.

Unfortunately, Obama failed to live up to his promise in the last term that he would be hands off with the going after medical marijuana. I lost a perfectly good tenant paying over 10k a month because the Feds came after property owners in California renting to dispensaries.

Be interesting to see what happens now because this is pretty similar to how prohibition of alcohol fell back in the day.

California - use of marijuana is medical use only, ergo you need a prescription and go buy at a regulated pharmacy.

and

I heard WA weeders were against the bill as included in the bill was a rule on how to rule on DUI, in their wording the limit was so low that if anyone who smokes regularly would get slapped with a DUI.

Since then, their drug addiction rate has been cut by 50%.
when it comes to highly addictive drugs like heroin or meth, legal or illegal there is going to be crime associated with it. not only by the user who needs more but can't afford it but by those running the businesses that sell it. they will still be fighting to control territory, taking out competition, etc and while i'm sure crime associated with importing the drug would die down, there would still be an underground market that undercuts the legal sellers.

You are correct. Since I am already a legal weed user in WA and AZ I don't see this as a victory.

As you have heard the feds still can and will arrest people for selling it. That's the law that needs to be put through, let's states regulate drug laws.

They might, not will. We already have medical marijuana - marijuana is being sold in stores all over the state. I drive past like 3 weed shops just in my way to work alone. They're everywhere.
