New VISA regs in April?

It seems there's a rumour going around. Before going further I have no idea at all how accurate it is and don't know the source well enough to judge. However, given the shit last time and the fact that these things seem to happen last minute with little warning it makes me wonder...

The rumour is that in April VISA are changing again to require a security deposit (rather than fee) of up to 50k for each paysite. At the moment it sounds too extreme to me but then again before they happened the recent changes would have sounded extreme too.

IF (and it's a huge if) it proved to be true whay sort of effect would it have? How many sites can currently lay their hands on 50k of cash as a deposit?

As I say it's probably total bullshit but if not you heard it here first (maybe).

50k for a multi million dollar paysite business isnt that big , but for the small time sites yeah thats a chunk of changes.

You might have to sell your testicles on the black market to cover the fee

I would say that is probably bs but who knows with Visa. Just think though at the 750 each site had to pay for each processor in November and times that by all the sites etc and they made a shitload of money.

IF (again a big if) it's true I have mixed feelings. In general I don't think it a bad thing however it would shut down a lot of small sites with unique content which is a bad thing.

Whether true or not there's too many seem to think something else is happening with VISA in April. The truth is out there...

Anything is possible.

I had one of the first 900 numbers AT&T issued and had to pay them a $30,000 deposit for it which they held for 1 year and finally returned.

It will never shut down small sites, it will 'limit' their growth is all...

There are plenty of alternative payment methods that will continuously showup in the online world. Visa is huge, and will make someone grow much faster, but it can be done without them...

That would be very sad for lots of smaller paysite owners who put their lives into their sites and mostly play by all the rules, meanwhile the assholes who are mostly responsible for VISA toughening up on the adult business will be able to pay the fees.

Good......

That would be the perfect kick in the ass to get me to go over to Dutchbilling.........I'd be taking a HUGE loss at first, but I'd be back within two months....

If I didn't get fired from my job for looking at porn, I wouldn't even be doing porn right now. I always need a good kick to get going.

CCbill is a good company but I'd much rather have my money processed offshore....My babymomma is nice to me now but you never know what could happen in the future.

And another thing....if this is true and Tipsy is the FIRST person I heard say it, and the processing companies stay silent like they did the last time, they will lose thousands of accounts...

The big guys who cause the most problems will find a way around the rules. They'd be the last ones standing if the industry ever got shut down completely.

I disagree. It would mean in the short to medium term a big drop in sales for any site currently using VISA and for many of the smaller sites this would mean they couldn't continue as their profits aren't too high at the moment. Sure other payment methods exist but it would still mean a drop and for those sites living almost hand to mouth....

That's it. I'm off to starty up Tipsy Processing Europe Ltd - we're first with the news!

I think the 50k thing a little unlikely but wouldn't discount it completely. Like I say though a lot of people are hinting at some kind of change in April.

You may be warranted in disagreeing, however I was speaking from some results of a test that a friend of mine did.

He banged out a shitty little front end and a shitty little interior. Threw a ton of hits to his site, ran a test WITH Visa, then did the same exact thing with one NOT accepting Visa...and he told me that his online checks kicked in like a motherfucker and the end result was only slightly noticable....

I saw the site, and was shocked at how simple it was... Very simple and lame...

It all boils down to how much and what type of quality traffic you can get and if you can sell...

This guy's skill is in traffic, so he may have an advantage over most...

I heard it'd be 500k in deposit and they'll only let oiginal content sites to remain so the chargebacks are low

I think the 50k deposit would MAYBE only apply to merchant accounts and not companies going through a 3rd party processor.

If that rumor were true, there would be no point in even using a 3rd party processor.

At first I thought this thread was going to be another one about the ongoing rumor of no recurring charges anymore.

Almost but you were a bit late Matt and maybe heard it from the same original source I did (whoever that would have been). I heard it through more than one 'channel'. Could be that someone's pissing themselves with laughter at orginally starting this and it's BS. However rumours often contain at the very least a grain of truth.

Well it wouldn't be a deposit, you would never see it again. Even if you retired with no problems I can't imagine Ibill, Visa etc. giving you back a dime of that.

This is the first I've heard by a long shot of third party processing putting up security deposits. Makes no sense to me since the processor is the one who has to cover the reserve with the bank in order to get an account.

At 50k PER site, it would be beyond ridiculous, you are telling me someone like ARS is going to put up a half million dollar security deposit in addition to the reserves their processors hold for 180 days? I don't see it.

Anyway, I'm in research mode since people keep mentioning April rules...
