No one wants to admit it. Pretty much you take the number of sales you make now and multiply by 10. That's about what you would have made a decade ago with the same amount of work.

Wow, this thread is an eye opener.

I used to have to average 6 sales a day to live (pay my bills, hosting, traffic costs). Last year I quit a lot of Adult stuff because I was averaging 2 - 3 sales a day and it wasn't profitable at all.

if your not making 3 - 6 sales a day how are you staying in business?

that is just over 3 per day...how could this be your job if you didnt?

Homegrown Video, bet on a proven winner

I see so many complain "ratios suck", "surfers aren't buying like they used to", "I used to get sales" etc.

All I have to say is look at Homegrown in rank on most of the big traffic tubes. You will note that the users vote us in the top. Our content generates views, gets great reviews, and we are selling just fine.

Our join funnel ratios continue to IMPROVE, not decline. Even better, we have more videos up than most which makes it even tougher to uphold the high average that other programs try to maintain by constantly pulling out their poorly reviewed clips.

In fact, I will wager that we could probably double or even better most of the ratios people keep complaining about - because the reality I see is everyone promoting sites that just don't do anything but offer the same content from the same small group of shooters that deliver most of the content to all the copycat programs that all ends up looking the same, same, same.

People don't have to try us but if you are complaining that something is not working then the first place to start is try finding something better. I am just saying that we would be happy to show you what makes us just one of many great alternatives. /rant

Farrell did you go with the tubes to get sales strategy? Do you mind telling if it was effective?

100 sales a month isn't enough to live even a modestly comfortable life for one individual in the U.S. Assuming that the sales pay on average $20/sale this is only $2,000/month.

$500/week is less than a college graduate income with a basic undergrad degree I think.

Now for side income I think it's a pretty good amount.

However, the ultimate goal in building online streams of income is focusing on the residual and passive aspects. The problem with this is that the revshares probably are what they use to be.

Just my opinion. I would think anyone doing 5-8 sales a day part time is doing a really good job!

And with regards to the big boys.....not to name them but likely they are doing 10-25 sales a day at least across the board! If not it's hard to run an operation with employees, contract workers, programmers etc I would imagine. Unless you are a one man shop and killing it in a huge way!

For many reasons Homegrown pretty much slipped out of sync with the heydey of tgp/mgp and couldn't bring in affiliates because no one liked using revEx so we basically embraced tube traffic early on as a way to generate traffic internally since we had so few affiliates.

After switching to NATS, we started submitting to tubes and getting the 1:10,000 to 1:20,000 that everyone complains about. However, we worked hard at testing and improved ratios significantly. We test everything, content, text, background colors, types of offers, branding, un-branded, videos on join pages, etc., everything possible.

Each tube pretty much has its own recipe for what works or doesn't content-wise, ad zone-wise, etc so there is no universal recipe. We also focused on branding, seeing potential in the organic traffic that much exposure generates as well. Finally, we used our tours to market similar to what we used to do with cracked password traffic. Essentially, we address the fact that we know the surfer wants "free, free, free" but present a reason why "pay" is worthwhile in our case.

Most of the tubes we work with have told us that we are one of the few companies that works as hard testing. We consider any ratio below 1:1000 to be good, but we strive for better than 1:500 as a benchmark of great. We aren't there yet for every tube, but we continue to improve.

100 sales a month won't even begin to pay the bills. But I do remember the time when I got excited when I hit that mark, just been awhile ago that's all.
