Good video editing and compressing program?

As you know we are getting more and more into the video side of content providing. Problem is that editing and compressing is damm slow.

So can you recommend a video editing program that is also good for converting to WMV and Divx and compressing.

Is there a program that just does converting and compressing?

Cleaner is the best but I don't think it does Divx.

Virtual Dub is great for editing and compressing to Divx. Won't do WMV, but that's why we have Windows Media Encoder. Once you edit the vid in Virtual Dub, just run it through WME for the final compression. Divx is resident in the program though, so long as you have the codec preinstalled.

We use Pinnicle Studio for basic editing and Vegas Video for more complex work. Pinnacle has built in WMV compression but I find the quality is not as good as going to Windows MEdia Encoder. We actually use the Windows Media Batch Encoder, which handles multiple clips at one time.

Thanks for this, no one going for Adobe Premier.

Also has anyone got any views on the best camera between Sony VX2000 and the PD 140?

Premiere is a part of some of the newer products from Pinnacle Systems, they have a wide variety from home to pro packages and good phone support when needed both before and after the sale. Not sure if thats worth anything to you being overseas though.

For simple stuff, VirtualDub rules. For very complex things, Adobe Premiere is the tool for me; however I think you don' t really need all of the Premiere's features and can use something cheaper and user-friendlier.

If you want to spend the money go for Pinnacles "Studio 8 Deluxe".

I use it in various ways.

a) Low speed internet mpegs for use on tours

b) High speed internet mpegs for inside

c) I make high quality vcd's for full length versions as vcd's are playable on more dvd/tv combinations around the world than dvd's recorded via a pc.

Adobe Premier is one of the most difficult programmes to learn and be able to use to the max.

Premiere 6.5 is good for editing and works well with Cleaner.

Go with a Canon GL2 . . .

I like the VX 2000, but the GL 2 is also a nice camera. I haven't tried the PD 140.

I just bought premiere. Loaded it up and it scared the hell out of me! Had to go and buy a book with big pictures in to explain to simpletons like myself how it works.

We use a combination of Final Cut Pro 2 and Adobe Premiere with Cleaner to batch and rendor our vids!

Go with the VX 2000, we shot with a GL 2 most of last year, and it is also a nice camera, but the Sony is better and less bulky!
