Trillian is working well these days. I just installed it last week on a new machine. It should load your contacts. Works with many chat services.

The issue last time with importing icq was that all groups and all were gone in trillian. It was a disorganized mess.

I always have problems with Skype messages coming in very late, as in hours and even days. I've reinstalled, upgraded every time they upgrade, and nothing seems to stop it from happening. If I relied only on Skype I'd be screwed.

Once in awhile I'll receive a message that was sent from someone a few days prior too.That's my only issue with Skype, but it doesn't happen often on my end. In comparison with ICQ, I hardly use that anymore. I'm almost always on Skype though.

I pretty much ditched ICQ long ago. It's full of spam, half the time when adding people, they never get notifications and can be quite bloated for what it is.

GTalk is where it's at. Pretty much all we use on a constant basis.

I imported to Pidgin, no problem importing logs, groups etc. And you get pretty much unlimited contacts. Try it before you stop using ICQ altogether, it's still widely used in our industry. Me personally, I still prefer it to Skype.

Never used Trillian, but I'm happy as a pig in shit with Pidgin. No problem importing groups/contacts, unlimited contacts etc.

might have to give it another shot, how's file transfers? Trillian seems to be pretty inconsistent in that sense, for me.

I havent had major trouble with file transfers...i sent a file yesterday, first time it crashed, i sent a second time and it went through

ICQ didn't let me add any new ones for awhile too even though I removed a crapload (guess I finally got under their "unmentioned" limit) until I finally created groups and moved people in/out.

Once I did that, I was able to add far more people than I started out with. Maybe give that a try & see if it works for you.
