There are four presidential candidates on the ballot for the upcoming election.

Democratic, Republican, Independent, and Libertarian parties are represented.

This question does not concern the Democratic or Republican candidates, so please go talk about them somewhere else.

Out of the remaining two parties:

Which party do you think will get the most votes? I havent researched either candidate because I simply dont care as they have no chance of winning. But they will get votes, so I am curious as which one will get the most votes. I'd like to see another party receive federal funding in the next election.

What is the Independent party? Is that the Green party? Gary Johnson will get the most votes but it'll probably be closer to 1-3%.

I dont remember exactly, I was looking at my absentee ballot earlier and noticed it. I'd like to see one of the parties get at least 5% but I dont think it is likely to happen. But it would be nice to give them a little extra push for the next election.

What's the rule with that 5% thing? Ross Perot got 19% of the popular vote, so I'm assuming it didn't count because the rule applies to a short period?

Third-party candidates may get public funds in an amount proportionate to votes received by that party as compared with the major parties in the previous presidential election. Independent or new party candidates may receive retroactive public funds after the election, if they get at least 5% of the popular votes. Sad, because the US needs alternative thinking. I really applaud the Libertarians but know they can never make it. They don't get to participate in the debates, they get almost no funding. In short, the established political machine has made sure there are only two voices to be heard. I always thought Americans wanted freedom of speech and freedom of choice.

This is exactly why one of the other parties needs enough votes to be recognized. Everybody here bitches they are unhappy with the way shit is but then they vote Democratic or Republican again, expecting something different.

I remember doing that when I lived in Colorado and Ralph Nader had a chance of making the minimum percentage. I knew my vote was meaningless anyway thanks to the electoral college. I think this would be another time that I would easily consider voting 3rd party if I had not forgotten to request an absentee ballot. Sigh...
