    Critic This New Site Please

    I just started work on this new site (Hosted On My Domain) for someone and would like to hear what you think about it.

    I only charged the guy $150.00 but just the same, I think it looks pretty cool. What do you think?

                              You have to keep in mind that I just started to work on it - it's by no means finish.

                              But just the same, what didn't you like about it?
                              It's not very helpful if you just tell me that you don't like it - at least tell me what I should do to improve it.

                                          I'm sorry to hear that because I'm using IE at screen resolution 1024x768 and it looks okay on my end.

                                          Someone said that it changed the size of they're screen - is that what you mean?

                                          Guess I better have a look at it with a lower resolution huh!

                                                  Okay, just looked at it with a screen resolution of 800x600 and it did look like shit - what resolution are you guys using and is anyone still using 800x600 and should I care about those that still do?

                                                  I'm using a resolution of 1024x768 and it looks fine on my end.

                                                                              I don't like to just tell someone that something is bad without trying to help. So, here are some more specific points...

                                                                              The marbled bits aren't consistent. Some of the bars don't connect/overlap properly. It just doesn't look clean. This is probably your biggest problem, at least in my browser.

                                                                              Your fonts (text, not logo) aren't consistent. Also, the white text on red looks poor. This would help.

                                                                              Your logo isn't easy to read, and is placed akwardly. Could use some work to be more ideal.

                                                                              No page should require such high resolution.

                                                                              No page should resize the window.

                                                                              Bad use of empty space and placement proportion.

                                                                                      There's loads to pick up on but I'm only gonna pick one. It uses frames *shudder* and makes a bad job of them too.

                                                                                      Personal opinion would be to totally scrap it and start again. I'm not saying that because it's your site. If anyone had designed that site I'd say the same.

                                                                                      An edit just to add - If you really can't see what's wrong with it you shouldn't be charging anyone anything to build sites.

                                                                                                      it's a good thing I asked for you to take a look at it cause from my end it was looking okay. But needless to say I made a few changes so it should look a little better now.

                                                                                                      I'm going to change the logo and work on it a little more before turning for the night but please have another look at it and once again let me know what else I should work on.

                                                                                                                                      The alignment of the text to the background is not set dynamically so the top links flow over a repeat of the background gra[hic at higher resolutions. You need to test your designs in various resolutions and learn to make them dynamically relevant. Big design 101 kinda thing. =]
