    I quit smoking

It's been right at 14 hours and I feel like killing someone. Not sure if this is going to last long.

Good luck - I'm sure it's particularly hard to do in NC. BTW, going to be in your neck of the woods the week after next - you are in the Asheville area, right?

Get some lozenges. From first hand experience, your throat will get sore as it begins to heal without the numbing effects of the smoke that has prevented your noticing it to date.

Good luck. I recently started smoking again. Not cigs, marijuana... and I know cigs are harder to quit. I just got tired of vaping.

                                      Awesome decision !
                                      Here's some facts from gwu.edu/quitsmoking/health.html
                                      to keep you motivated.

                                      20 Minutes After You Quit
The effects of quitting start to set in immediately. Less than 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your heart rate will already start to drop back towards normal levels.

( You will feel like killing someone )

                                      2 Hours After You Quit
After two hours without a cigarette, your heart rate and blood pressure will have decreased to near healthy levels. Your peripheral circulation may also improve. You may also begin to feel nicotine withdrawals.

( You will feel like killing someone )

                                      12 Hours After You Quit
In just 12 hours after quitting smoking, the carbon monoxide in your body decreases to normal levels, and your blood oxygen levels increase to normal.

( You will feel like killing someone )

                                      24 Hours After You Quit
The heart attack rate for smokers is 70% higher than for non-smokers. But, believe or not, just one full day after quitting smoking, your risk for heart attack will already have begun to drop.

( You will feel like killing more than one person )

                                      48 Hours After You Quit
At this point all nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.

( You will attempt to kill someone )

2 to 3 Weeks After You Quit
You'll finally be able to exercise and perform physical activities without feeling winded and sick. This is also the point in which most people stop feel withdrawal symptoms.

                                      ( Get a good lawyer )

1 to 9 Months After You Quit
Starting about a month after you quit, your lungs begin to regenerate. Inside them, the cilia ?the tiny hair-like organelles that push mucus out ?will start to repair themselves and function properly again.

( You're fine from here on in )

                                      1 Year After You Quit
The one year mark is a big one. After a year without smoking, your risk for heart disease is lowered by 50% compared to when you were still smoking.

                                      5 Years After You Quit
5 to 15 years of being smoke-free, your risk of having a stroke is the same as someone who doesn't smoke.

                                      10 Years After You Quit
It'll take 10 years, but if you quit, eventually your risk of dying from lung cancer will drop to half that of a smoker's. Ten years after quitting, your risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas also decreases.

                                      Long Term Benefits
The long-term benefits of quitting smoking are fantastic. According to the American Heart Association, non-smokers, on average, live 14 years longer than smokers.

Start snacking throughout the day on raw veggies, 0% yogurt, rice crackers, grapefruit slices, etc. Anything with zero or close to zero calories. Graze all day on that stuff.

Do that and that "eating too much" problem becomes a non-issue.

Drink a lot of cranberry juice -- they say it's good at eliminating the nicitione alkaloids from your body -- just accept the fact that the next week or two will be hell but that you can overcome your addiction.

I haven't smoked for 3 years now. Smoking contributed to my health problems. I regret the time I stole my first cigarettes at 14. After 40 years of heavy smoking I managed to quit. So if I could, anyone can if they really want to.

There is no future in smoking and e-cigarettes just inject nicotine into your body exposing you to cardio-vascular illness that is often fatal. Nicotine reduces the 'lumen' or the diameter of your arteries thus your overall blood flow. Nicotine use contributes to calcification (or hardening) of your arteries and is the leading contributor to PAD (peripheral artery disease). PAD makes it painful to walk due to reduced blood circulation because of clotting (stenosis) in narrowed leg arteries or in extreme cases; amputation of your legs.

Think about your life with your legs amputated and in a wheelchair when you get the next nicotine fit ...

I've never quit the habit, mostly because I never aquired it nor started in the first place, but I have heard from many former long-time smokers who've quit say that it is the third week that is the killer. As in, if you can make it through that third week then you have a real shot at staying quit.

Not all ex-smokers agree on that though.

                                                        Good luck TA.

Thankfully, I never developed a tobacco habit, although I do consume medical marijuana these days.

Smoking cannabis can be as bad (or worse) than smoking tobacco, so I advocate vaporization or eating edibles:

No you didn't "quit" smoking. Quitting is not doing something anymore.

Typical smokers "i quit" then whine about smokes and start smoking again.

It takes a completely weak mind to be addicted in the first place so you will most likely smoke again.

Why dont you smokers do the rest of us a favour and smoke your fucking brains out? No one gives a fuck about you "quitting" because 99% of you fail anyway. If you want to quit do it or not. No one else is shoving smokes in your mouth and making you inhale.

At least do the rest of us a favour and shut the fuck up about it.
