I was surprised to read the laptop/desktop thread posted which resulted in many stating they use their laptop more than anything. I was very surprised to see this. I wonder if there are any 5 figure monthly earners doing killer numbers on the laptops?!?! If so, I congrat! Maybe I need to switch my computer set up.

I use both. I have a desktop with 2 24 in monitors, but I also have a laptop. These days I do about 20% of my work on the laptop.
However, when I first started out I just had a laptop and for the first three years I was in adult I worked only on a laptop. -

I will never understand the laptop obsession. Most people using them dont really need them, they just believe its cool to have one, especially the beginners and women. Not sure why.
I would never do any work on a laptop if I had a desktop available, the keys and screen are too small + the power can never be compared to a desktop.no sig, sorry

A laptop is a lot more convenient. You can use it wherever you are.
I open mine at home as soon as I wake up, then I use it in the car when I'm going to the office and then in the office I connect it to my mouse, keyboard and monitor. The I use it again on the way home and use it in bed before I sleep.
I never shut it down, it's always on 24/7. It's so convenient to have everything you need or are working on with you at any time.
Your logic that people that only use a laptop would make less money does not make any sense. It would make more sense the other way around. I personally know plenty of people that make a lot of money who only work on laptops. I would even go as far to say that people that do not have laptops would make less money.
I really don't understand the need for a desktop PC. Everyone that works online and travels (and I'm sure 99% of the people do) needs a laptop anyway, so why would you need a desktop PC as well. Laptops these days are powerful enough to replace desktops and you can just connect a mouse, keyboard and monitor, so I absolutely see no need for a desktop, unless you are like a hardcore designer of video editor or something.
I remember back in the days when I had a desktop at the office and a desktop at home and a laptop for traveling. If you have a conversation on one desktop, or someone sends you a file, and later you are on the other desktop you dont have the conversation or file. I know it's getting better these days because most is stored in the cloud, but still, it just not make sense, it's so much more convenient to just work on one single laptop wherever you are. The hard working and rich people I know sit with their laptop in their bed at night and in the morning to finalize deals, they don't wait until they come to the office, or go to their home office to boot up their desktop computer.Comment

For sure im more effecient and i WILL DO LESS MONEY using only a laptop...
You need both imo... a good work place at home and office where you do the most of your jobs... i dont understand when i see companies that only provide one screen to their staff or pp working only on a lap top.. come one ... how come you can look multi talbe/page/report/chat etc on a lap top.... you always scroll between tabs..
BUT i need laptop to work everywhere.. like now... watching obama and working on the lap top... if i dont have a lap top... i will work much less... because now lap top is near TV, near dining room etc..

It can depend on what you do.
For me having the desktop with two screens makes me a hell of a lot more productive. I can have what I am working on on one screen and any reference material I need on the other and not have switch back and forth between the windows constantly.Comment

For some people they are perfect. If you are someone who travels a lot for work it can be good. My girlfriend has one that she uses for school and it works perfectly for it because she can take it to work and use it on her lunch break or if she is at my house she can hook up to my wifi and work from here.Comment

you can use a laptop as a desktop.
just plug a keyboard, mouse and another screen (so you have dual screen, for those that like a command center) and there you go!
you can also sit the laptop on an elevated laptop platform if you dont like to bend you neck down to look at the laptop screen.
the extra laptop advantage here would be that you can unplug it from the "desktop setup" and take it with you... to another room, to a meeting, on a trip...
of course if you require high proccessing capacity for video editing or renderings or whatever, a desktop will be better, but for web work I dont see the desktop advantage. really.Last edited by loopardo; 10-16-2012, 08:47 PM.___Comment

I have a sweet desktop computer that I built and still upgrade which I use for work, gaming, media, etc. I also have an older laptop that I run Arch Linux on and I use that for work when I'm traveling or can't be at my desktop.Comment
