Do you all still buy desktop computers? Or totally switch to laptops?

Im in the market for a new computer and to be honest it is such a pain in the ass to have a desktop computer. So many cords everywhere, hard to move around, and Im tired of having a big bulky desk to house it all.

I also have 2 laptops, one next to my bed and one in the living room. I have a small minimalist desk from Ikea and I use my laptop on that and I like it a lot.

I was wondering if any of you have gotten rid of your desktop and now work on laptops and what you think.

Desktop. Could not live without my 24 inch monitor. I am not a happy camper when I travel and am stuck with my 15 inch laptop.

Yup, work on my desktop daily. Couldn't live without it. Absolutely hate trying to work on my laptop. Much more productive with an external kb, mouse and dual monitors.

Desktop for my home office, laptop if I go somewhere but I fucking hate not having my 27" monitor so usually if I am going somewhere by car and staying a couple of day's or more I bring the 27" led monitor and hook It up to the laptop along with cordless mouse and keyborad and It feels like the office computer :P

Get a new mini desktop for work then. They're only 10 inches tall and about 15 deep. If you go wireless keyboard, mouse and LAN then you're not looking at a mess of cords.

I still use my desktop a lot, it's not super fast core 2 quad machine but it still is a lot faster for video editing than any laptop I've tried yet.

I recently built a new desktop. I also have a fairly new laptop though.
All in all you're going to get a hell of a lot more power for your money with a desktop, especially if you build it yourself.

I do a fair bit of PC gaming so a laptop is just out the question for that. Also a lot of Photoshop and cpu-intensive video editing.

Desktops are definitely on their way out for 'average users' but they'll always be around for people doing work that requires power.

I really like my laptop, extremely fast and I take it everywhere, but there are still some things like 3d rendering and CAD that I still have to do on my desktop.

Hell, I used to do blogging a few years ago on a hacked Dreamcast with DSL Linux...

Personally I've been laptop only for 6-7 years only. Most of the time it's hooked up to an additional external monitor. I got rid of the external mouse 5yrs ago because that gave me RSI.
My video editors are on desktops.
My writers are on laptops.

Still on PC and loving it. New computer is 4.1 crammed with more RAM than all my mother computers combined. Three monitors, balling. Smooth as glass and silent too.

However, I am in the market for a high end laptop. I like to travel with my little netbook, but I took it to Hawaii and tried to work from there for over a week and it just wasn't cutting it. I plan on on buying a new laptop shortly here.

As a web designer and developer I have grown used to using two monitors and a powerful desktop.

A lot of hipster web designers and developers use the MAC Book Pro.

I only take my laptop out when I go see clients.

Gotta have a powerful desktop computer for photoshop, video editing, video crunching and big monitors. I suppose anyone that has no use for professional applications is better off just using a laptop.

I have worked exclusively on a laptop for many years. I simply connect it to a large monitor when in my office. I like having one unit with everything needed with me at all times. If I end up ever needing to do anything high end I will simplly swap out the hard drive and replace with an ssd. After all, it's the hard drive that is the weak link in the computer anyway.

I've been exclusively on a laptop for about a decade, but I'll be getting a desktop here in the next month or two. I have an office at home now, plus I'm wanting bigger screens and a little more power than laptops typically have.

Pocket cloud app and rdp access on desktop. But its annoying to do, I only do it in emergency situations while out of town. I don't like bringing laptop on vacations.

Laptops only for the past 4 years.

Haven't turned the desktop system on in ages...although I still have it under the desk.

Currently I'm running a 22" aux monitor on the laptop, though.

Both.
Desktops are better by far to work on.
But if I am traveling, desktops are not so easy to lug around, so I take a laptop instead.
